Rear Sets
« on: January 20, 2008, 07:28:16 PM »
Hello fellow riders..

I'm sure with many others like me who have converted there bike over to Cafe Racer style machine with nice low swung handle bars...have also set back there foot pegs for a better riding position or maybe not.

My Question
I have no problem with setting back a foot peg on clutch side..then flipping the shifter to a reverse pattern..easy enough.

However...any clever Ideas for brake side (right) (CB750F 1975)...that stinkin' brake pedal sticks so far forward and the way it's set up...it pushes on Brake Reservoir..in order to activate my Disk Brake in the back..

Open for some brain storming.

'75 750F has a rear disk brake?  Use a modern sport bike rearset pair.  They have the rear brake mastercylinder mounted as part of the rearset.  Generally they have the shift linkage also, so reversing the shift pattern isn't necessary.  I use Yamaha FZR600 rearsets on all of my vintage bikes.  Nice small compact unit.  Available on Ebay for less than $50 a set.  If you have a rear drum, then it's possible to weld a piece onto the rear brake mechanism that you can hook the brake rod to.  You need to pull the rear hub apart and reverse the brake mechanism so that the rod pulls on the top of the hub as opposed to below the axle.

Do you use them on both sides and is there much modifying to get them to work on a CB750?

yes, I use them on both sides.  I simply welded a 4" long piece of 1x1x1/8 angle iron directly to the frame rail that goes from the swing arm pivot to the rear shock mount.  Drilled some mounting holes and bolted on the rearsets.

Did the same thing to my CB400F race bike as well as my CB750.

For the rearset bracket that I am building for my 76 F, I got a Suzuki Katana rear brake MC. It has a remote reseviour for easier fitment.
