I have a 750 but the serial number is marred beyond description...how do I know what gasket sets, carb sets etc. to buy. Thanks.

Tell us what the frame / VIN number is and post some clear photos.

You should have a VIN stamped on the left side of the steering head as well as a VIN plate on the right side. There should also be an engine number stamped on top of the case under the carbs. Are all of these unreadable?

thanks....this is an old beat up engine...in an amen frame. no serial numbers. SOHC is all I know...It is frozen up, so slowly taking it a part. rebuilding carbs and top end...If I gave you a pic of carbs would you be able to tell me what year? Thanks.

The serial number will be on the top side of the case, below the carbs, with a slightly raised rectangle around it. Using the carbs to identify the engine would be messy, especially since you don't know what they did when they put it into teh Amen frame. Could have different carbs, an overbore kit, etc.

Start looking for new cases, that look like the ones you have..

If you want to ride on the street its not worth putting any work into it only to have it confiscated when you get pulled over or go to register it,

Meanwhile, is there a spot on the shifter cover that has a shift pattern cast into it? When you look at the head from the outside edge is there 3 bars between the fins or 4?

Sign up for a Photobucket.com account. You'll be able to link the pictures from that. They have to be hosted on the internet. It's not like attaching a photo in an email.

There will be a button under the pic when it's on Photobucket that says IMG code. Click that, then the address for the pic will be copied, then in your post here, left click and paste the address and the pic will show up in your post.

You can preview your post before you submit it to make sure the pic is what you want it to be.

Isn't the engine number stamped somewhere else on the engine guys? Or am I wrong about that?

The carbs should have a few numbers and letters stamped on the carb bodies...
(??) right behind the mount plate that holds the carbs together.
Does each carb have a individual cable?('69/70 i beleive)
Is there an accelerator pump diaphragm on any of the carbs?(77/78)
I believe all other years are pretty much the same.(71-76)

Could be wrong some of this info.
The only 750 carb experience is with a set of 750 carbs... for my 650.

You might have different carbs than your motor(year-wise).

You were able to pull the head off in the frame?
Nice..... I've been searching for a GOOD condition amen plunger frame for a while now.

For 72 or earlier, you need a K1/K2 gasket set.

By the bolt pattern on the clutch cover, its a diecast CB750. You did not show the side of the head. Looking at posts verticle to the fins, 3 spaces K0 K1 head, 2 spaces K3 and up. K0 and later clutch basket/cage different (I found that with mine) and some other details but alot of common parts.
