I am rebuilding my bike this winter and have the fool idea in my head to try and graft a modern slip on aftermarket sport bike can on to my 4 into 1 exhaust manifold for more of a Hooligan bike look. Has anyone tried this? I have my bike broken down right now and I am stripping down my exhaust manifold in preperation for a flat black ceramic finish, and thought "If I extend that just a bit and got a modern race can that would fit it, that would look bad@$$...."

Any thoughts/experiences to share???

My jetting is already knackered, so I will be sorting that out anyway, any other considerations? Other than inlet diameter, what qualifications should I look for? Length? I figure something made for a modern 600-800cc bike should be good, and I am sure a local wrecking yard has a pile of crashed crotch rockets I can pick through for parts to try, before I drop coin on a new one.

Those things are usually pretty big tho, aren't they. At the most you would need a reducer and some place for a mounting strap. I'd like to see a cb750k with the exhaust under the rear fender out of sight some how! Or a nice 4 into 2 that didn't cost $500/650.

for my 75 f model, i have currently a mac 4:1 header for a 79.  I have a 2 1/4 outlet, and a yamaha R1 has about a 2 1/4 inlet, and appears to be close, but that is as far as i have gotten.  I hate to put on a yamaha muffler, but there is a blue titanium....

Likely will need a muffler shop with a mandrel bender, but i am likely at least 6 mo out...

i'll be listening..

You mean like this...?
Have no idea what header or fart can it is, as they both came with the bike when I bought it last June. But I think they lok and most certainly sound good..... :)

Here's a couple pics af what I did. Mac header cut off at collector, reduced from 2.5" to just under 2" and then built the pipe from thin walled SS tubing (an old swimming pool ladder) with lots of ground clearance back to a SS flange which a GSXR750 can bolts to. This muffler is about 4.5"x18" long and it gives a deep throaty tone without being loud. I like it, and it's far lighter than the original billybaloney mac megaphone.

I am sure that with some fabrication you can make it work, as the pictures above illustrate.  I think you should use the new models, after market gsxr cans, as they are smaller in size.

wow...
those look great! That is really close to what I am after. My pipes I think are MAC aftermarket jobbies, 4 into 1 with the upswept megaphone muffler slipping on just behind the peg. I have used an abrasive wheel to scuff up the chrome and remove the rust in all the crevices so the header will better accept some flat black "ceramic" exhaust paint, or if finances allow a professional ceramic coating. I will be talking to a friend this week who welds/fabricates to see if he can extend and taper down the end of the header a little, maybe to 2.25" then off to the catalogs and internet to find a cool race can with a matching inlet.

I am also considering some exhaust wrap/tape for the 4 seperate pipes, does anyone know someone who makes it in gray???? Tan is out, and the black would be lost on flat black pipes, methinks.

Wow, that is extreme.... Kinda cool though.

I love my local Honda shop! I just went in to pick up a gasket set I ordered the other day, and explained my plan to Darin the parts guy, and he told me to hold on a minute...
A minute later he comes out of the shop area with one of these from a CBR600RR with a scrape on the end cap for $50!!!!

That's a $550 can! Seems a customer scraped it wheelieing his bike and promptly dropped $550 for a new one. The magnesium end cap that is scratched is replaceable for like $40! This thing weighs like 3lbs!
So, off to the muffler shop to get my manifolds end extended a bit, tapered to 2" ID and get a flange mounted on it. Heck I can probably spring to get the whole thing powdered with ceramic and still have my whole exhaust cost less then this can!!!

Manassas Honda Kawasaki RAWKS! Thanks Darin!  ;D

I'm fitting a carbon fiber M4 canister to my 500 cafe. I used a piece of 45 degree bent 2 inch pipe right off the shelf at advance auto to mate my 4-1 to the canister.

A buddy of mine wrapped the headers on his VW Bug with a kind of exhaust insulation tape. The VW exhaust is pretty close to th ground too, and it soaked up plenty of water. According to him, the tubes rusted twice as fast as if he'd let them stay uncovered....

Sam-
That CR is the bee's knees.
The exhaust set up is just like I am going for, sans carbon can and heat wrap.
Doubt my K8 would give your CR much of a run for her money even with the new exhaust though.

Drew, it runs 12.1 over the quarter at 117mph peaking in 4th gear. (280lb rider)
We are going to do some top speed runs with the tall gearing (18/39) sometime this year.

I've heard that too.
That company's header tape is removeable easily so I can peel it off, dry it out and check on the pipe underneath. I think the ceramic coating should help retard the oxidation process as well. I guess if I loose 5% longevity for spiffy looks, I can deal with that, and down the line I am sure I will want some other style of exhaust anyway.

You can do what ever you want as long as you know how and have the tools to back it up.

I made my header and I use a super trap can, which I love. Before I was sold on the super trap I used a bunch of different cans, I even used a Micron Exhaust can off my GSXR. The super trap is much easer to tune, very flexible and it has a perfect profile and fitting for the CB750. The others are in my opinion to long and don’t give much performance with the exception of less weight.
So what I’m saying is, #$%* around have fun and find what works.

O and as soon as I get time, I’m going to do a 4 into 1 fish tail for my chopper. That will fun..

Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.
