Topic: Triumphs....how well do any of you know what were avalable with the old ones?

I know my title is a lil confusing but i just gotta ask it anyways lol. Im buying an old triumph 250cc from a friend for $500...However he couldnt remember what model it was when he was telling me about it today. All i know about it thus far is it has a scrambler style exhaust and trials type tires. And that its a 250 cc...only thing that i could find on the net thus far that it might be is an old Triumph Trophy 250. Anyone else know more about the old triumphs and be able to figure out what this thing is?

sure sounds like a trophy, does your friend remember what year it is (the bike i mean)?

Unfortunitly he couldnt even remember that much..he was gonna check that info for me and im probably gonna go take a look at it in person in a couple weeks because right now im about 90% im taking it since engine wise all it needs is the head checked out...repaired if needed then reinstalled followed by reinstalation into the rolling chassis. other then that new tires and maybe fork seals at worst on the chassis itself.

         Don't know anything about those particular ones either. My last recollection of the smaller Triumphs was the Tiger Cub and it was a 200cc back then. They did have a conversion kit for them so that they could compete in the 250cc class against the likes of the BSA C15 250cc StarFire Scramblers. I kinda lost interest on those after that. Sorry.

The later T25 motor is same as BSA Barracuda. Its got a one piece forged crank with plain bearing big end and alloy con-rod (from what I remember) It looks similar to C15 externally though

To be honest I cant remember a Triumph 250, there was probably a "badge engineered" BSA starfire which was an updated C15 and a damn nightmare to keep going as bottom end was not good.
If you can get a year i will resurch it this side of the pond for you

On a quick check, if its about 68/70 its a Triumph Trophy 250 TR25W

And i repeat my previous opinion ITS 'ORRIBLE

You're right there Bryan, the Trophy was a Triumph badged BSA.

That was one of my first bikes a 1969 BSA starfire  , cheers mick.

      When the Starfire Scramblers first came out, a couple of guys in our area, bought them from my Grandfather's shop and raced them on the Scrambles track. They did pretty well too! Main competition they had was the Triumph Tiger Cubs converted to 250cc.
