Suzuki GS forum?
« on: January 16, 2008, 05:03:23 AM »
I just helped my just-starting-over brother-in-law get some wheels we can fix up for basic transportation for him.  It's an '82 Suzuki GS450GA which is a shaft-driven semi-automatic.  Kinda cool and looks a bit like my '71 CB500 (another UJM).
Are there any good Suzuki GS forums you can recommend, or should we just try posting questions here?
I think, all it needs now is a carb redo and tank cleaning - it was barn fresh and good and dirty, but otherwise decent for $300.

He spent all day yesterday cleaning it up getting the dirt and dust off of it, and doing up the chrome.  Wheels look nice against those black tires now!   :)  Bike shows 11,500 miles on the odometer.
We rolled it back into the garage charged it and got 140-150 PSI on the cylinders (is that in range?), and the plug sparks jumped a solid 1/4" gap to the heads so spark seems good.  Battery is bad as it only holds for about 10 seconds of cranking.
We'll tackle the carbs and tank this week/weekend.

I've done the initial go around with the cleaning of the carbs and the tank.  The tank is still off, I want to do more work to it.

I get more backfires it seems like than time running - could it be a valve clearance issue, or timing?  I can't get it to run more than about 5 seconds before it dies.  But the backfire sure get the attention kids playing basketball in the street! :-)

Also, theres Gstwin.com  which is a useful resource for the paralell twins there.  its mostly based around the 500E/F models, but you might find some useful info.
