what does this gasket go to?
« on: January 24, 2008, 10:13:02 PM »
So i just ordered a gasket kit for all four carbs.  Realized that was a big waste of money and i could have gotten all of this at the local hardware store.  Anyways, what do these gaskets belong to?  I took these bad boys completely apart and don't recall ever seeing these.

What are the part numbers?  Perhaps a coin included in a pic for a size reference.

The middle one is about the same size as a quarter.

And it's pretty hard to understand what the part numbers are for the gaskets.  It came with one piece of paper and i don't really understand what it means.  The gasket kit part number is 16010-HB5-305 and the gaskets i'm concerned about one has a B on it the other a C and the flat gasket was just hanging out in the main bag.

The explanation is in the paper. Many o.rings and washers are interchangeable between different carbs, so what Honda did was to simply create a single reference for similar carbs, that contains all the common o-rings plus all the individual o-rings per each carb, so you just have to discard the ones that are not used in your carb. This helps to keep the number of references down at the expense of some discarded o-rings.

Don't remember exactly how the paper was, but it was like a table with the bike model in the columns, and it would tell you which o-rings applied -A, B, C etc-

I hope I have made myself clear.

IMHO, there is no comparison between the parts you can use to rebuild your carbs that are found in the local hardware store and those in a good quality rebuild kit. Although they may appear to be identical parts, their resistance to fuel and precise dimensions are different. My first rebuild of my 500's carbs was attempted with hardware store parts and i quickly found this out, resulting in the investment in a proper kit to make things right.

Without a size comparison my guess - 1 might go around the top chrome fork bolt as an oil seal?  Maybe one will fit the round covers that you take off to adjust the valves?

While you may think that the Honda o-rings are too much money, they are very good, last a long time, and fit properly.  Also, you mention that the middle one is "flat".  It is flat because it is worn-out.  It was a round o-ring at one time.

Well put them all back together and never saw where they went.  I got a new problem now.  When i tighten the front deckplate the choke cannot move freely.  How do i fix this?

This o ring is brand new and all four of them came that way.

all four of them came that way

How many of each of those do you have?  I would have guessed differently if I knew there were multiples of any of them.
