OK, So I did a couple of searches....
« on: July 24, 2007, 06:13:07 PM »
Hi all!
I had a friend comment on the amount of oil pissing out of my '78 550k today and I explained to him about the leaky head gasket and how I plan on rebuilding the top end when I get a few other projects settled.  Well, I stopped at the local market for some groceries and noticed a big brown puddle under the bike! ???
I has oil pressure when it fired, so I rode the 2 miles home home and noticed a steady drip from the left side of the motor when I pulled into the driveway.  I recently replaced the chain and sprockets and was afraid of the chain eating into the case.  After pulling the starter and sprocket covers about a pint of fluid drained out.  Turns out the oil pressure sender failed.  I replaced it with one from my parts bike, but here is my question:
I swear I have seen this same sender after years of fixing Japanese cars.  Does this sender cross over to any Honda cars?  I work for an Acura dealer and may be able to get a killer deal on these if I knew what model it fits.
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Maybe take the old unit to the parts counter and ask the oldest guy there.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

You're right. It does look like just about every Japanese oil light switch ever made.

How about a '74 Civic?

As long as it fits, and there is enough pressure to turn the light off, it should work.

Happy trails.

I took my oil pressure switch to a local advance auto parts, and while they had a dozen or so different switches, none of them had the same thread size on it.  Some of them were close, but I didn't want to take a chance boogering up the threads.

Well, just when you thought this thread was dead...
I wound up using an oil pressure switch from my spare 550 engine and it worked well until a few days ago.  I noticed the kickstand left a small oil mark on my garage floor, but I was late for work and rode in anyway.  When I got there I was low on oil so I pulled the cover and dumped a few ounces of oil in the parking lot.  Anyway, I called the local Honda M/C dealer and ordered one over the phone.  When I picked it up 3 days (and 37 bucks) later I noticed the familiar Honda label lacked the winged "HM" insignia.  While I was at work today (I work at a Honda/Acura dealer) I had the parts guy run the number and it was good.  Actually my cost was 20 bucks better than the bike shop where I got mine.  He laughed and said his list was 6 bucks cheaper AND most dealers are getting daily stock orders on stuff ordered before 3pm.  I'll post the p/n after I order a couple more.  One for the shelf, and one to return to the local Honda m/c dealer (if they'll take it back.)  I'll also see if my parts guy can tell me what model vehicle the switch is from.

Alright guys, this took a while to post back.  I've been busy with so many other things.  The oil pressure switch part number is 37240-P13-013 and it fits '86-'90 Acura legends and '91-'05 Acura NSXs.  The part number is also good for Honda Automobiles but am not sure of the application.  The switch should cost around $20 bucks at the auto dealer instead of $40 at the bike dealer.  Hope this helps.

I would just plug it and add an oil pressure guage.

If the screw fits, wire it!
