No tension in clutch...
« on: August 01, 2005, 06:15:21 PM »
Hiyo,

Im about to pick up a '73 CB500 Four I bought off a guy in town.

The bike was dropped and the clutch lever snapped back.  There is now no tension in the clutch lever.  I know the cable is intact because the clutch adjuster moves slightly when you squeeze the lever.  However, if you try to tighten the cable, the adjusters just spin and spin with no result.

This is my first bike and I'm hoping for an easy fix (although the bike was so cheap, it doesn't matter!).  Any ideas?  How does that cable hook up inside the clutch?  Could something have snapped inside?

...can't image dropping it would have did any serious damage to the clutch...at least not internally.  When u get it pull the cover and look around...maybe as simply as a slipped spring or something.  Get the manual from the FAQ section so u have a diagram to go by...

Sounds like the cam that releases the clutch has overcentered.

You'll probably have to pull the clutch cover and check.
