wait a second... how is there an in-focus 360 degree photo?  i thought i remembered one of gerheads rigs actually rotating but, this is too much of a single moment for that... right?

good point- i hadnt even thought of that.  its a special camera i believe- that shoots through a 360 degree anamorphic lens, another lens is used to make the image you see- they use them on movies to reference for digital effects.  ive only seen them used on big budget hollywood productions, so i guess there wont be any home spun gerhead versions as that stuff must be prohibitively expensive for mere mortals.

still a cool site though

Cool stuff !
You can shoot staight up at the bottom (pointy end) of a mirrored cone with a still camera.
Then with software and/or Photoshop expand the image into a recognizable 360.
Generally the imagess seem to be shot with a rotating/moving film type camera.
The cockpit is a rendering, I'd say.

I think I'll get my pano going !

i should have known that you would have already thought of a home spun way of doing it.  cool shot, where is it?
the technique i was writing about is a still camera that produces results like what you see- a moving image would not be able to recreate a single moment in time like he does with the kadhafi press conference. i bet you are right though that there is no second lens anymore, but a graphics program that undistorts the captured image.  he is most definately using top of the line stuff for his operation but thanks for the reminder that with ingenuity many more things are possible.

Okay, I panned around to face towards the back to see the poor shmucks in coach, but someone closed the door.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Klark,

My shot is the historic pergola in Pioneer Square--Seattle.
It's a rebuild.
The original pergola (used as a carriage/bus stop) was fine for about
100 years until a semi ran into it.
