CM250C Added to the Stable
« on: January 29, 2008, 09:57:52 PM »
Just got a '83 CM250 Custom!  Nice bike for the girlfriend to learn on!  Anyone know much about this model?  Usual parts suppliers? I know there is no forum like THIS forum, but is there one similar for the small in-line twins?
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I have an 82' CM250C that has been a fun little bike, just spun the odometer past 40K miles.  Honda still makes that same engine to this day, the only hard part of the bike to replace is the side covers (right side especially).  It has been used and abused, taught many people how to ride and made the driven test too easy.

I have quite a few extra parts if you are looking.

That the one that is belt drive?

I have said many times that i would sell it, but then I would never know how far it will really go before it gives up.  Suppose I'll have o take this one with me in the end...

not a 250...but a 185 ;D

Link to build below.  Perhaps it can answer some questions you have as you get started.

Thanks Gents!

The bike is a runner, so prolly just going to do the annual maintenance routine this Spring plus check all safety issues.  It's the chain drive model, so it's an early one.

I'm looking for a new headlight bucket and tail light lens as both are cracked.  I see also that the headlight has a very small diameter 3-prong plug.  Are these headlights hard to find?  If I'm replacing the bucket anyway, should I consider converting to a more available (i.e. cheaper) headlight?  What kind of charging capacity does this bike have?

Repair manual on the way!

Thanks again!

Is that the big 125 or the small 400 motor?

Believe it or not, my headlight bucket was cracked too.  After riding down to the parts yard, I found a mid-80's Zuki 750 headlight fit perfectly.  And the bonus was a chrome bucket, and I was able to finally get a bright halogen bulb in it.

I am a fan of Honda's, but the early model buckets just don't seem to be made very well.  I have always replaced every one of them, including an early Yamaha assembly on the 550.
