Well it looks like I've upset you guys again by having an opinion that some here would label "America Bashing", which seems to me to be a convenient "Call to arms" for other patriotic Americans to jump in and ignore what they would otherwise agree with, to rally around the flag and defend their country's honor. Fair enough, we all love our countries, but that "patriotism" shouldn't cloud your reasoning.

Unfortunately there don't seem to be too many black Americans on this forum, (which, ironically, flies in the face of the bumper sticker that started off this thread) because I'd love to read what their thoughts on the subject are. Somehow I don't think that they'd necessarily agree that America is the world leader in creating a comfortable co-existence for non-white Americans that some here would suggest. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ok, Terry, keep on trollin'.  No, I'm not an ignorant white flag-waving redneck, Terry.  I've traveled around the world and seen these things myself.  I'm not basing my stance on second-hand anti-American biased global media.  You non-Americans just seem to love bashing America and exaggerating our perceived weaknesses.  Well, except for the ones who spend so much energy trying to get here.

I'm proud of America, and I believe that things may not be perfect, but, on the whole, black people have it better here than they would anywhere else in the world, including Australia and the UK.

As for black Americans, why don't you let them speak for themselves, instead of putting your own ignorant words in their mouths.   I'll remind you that you don't know me, or what I look like.  You don't know my family or my children.  All you know about me is that I grew up in The Bronx, and I'd vote for Colin Powell for President in an instant.  Also, I'd rather see Obama Barack as the president than Hilary Clinton.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being proud of your country of origin but not if its going to blind you to the way of life and opinions of other people.

I usualy do not react to these kind of topice. But this time I'll make a exception.
I have traveled many times to the US and all over the world. As a Belgian I do not attract much reaction as most people have never heard of Belgium. But even if it is only a flyfart big I am proud of it. That asside, the key is communication. I speak a few languages and that helps. I have met people from all colour and race. Most of them where nice people. Maybe I attract nice people, I do not know. As Mr Canyon750 states. One should not be blind to the way of life and opinions of other people. Even someone with an, in my eye, nasty racist remark has an opinion and way of life we should not turn a blind eye to. Fortunately it has no effect on me and I will not look any different to people of colour I know or still have to meet.

Discrimination is unfortunately a fact of life.

Johnny, after having the pleasure of reading your posts all these years, I have no doubt that is the case.

Ed, there is no better country for cultural diversity and ethnicity than Canada!

Well Terry, at least you know how THIS Black American feels about the subject.  Not all of us are lazy, welfare taking, feel sorry for me because I'm Black, drug taking, rap music loving, uneducated beings!   ;D  Like I stated before, and will paraphrase again;  I think we would all be better off if we stop thinking of ourselves as "American", "Australian", "Canadian" or where-ever "ian" or "ican" you might be and start by being HUMAN first.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with being proud of your country of origin but not if its going to blind you to the way of life and opinions of other people.

Well said mate. I'd suggest that most black American's are like you, the ones I've met here in Oz, including a lot of US soldiers I've worked with were great blokes, although not all were treated as "equals" by their white counterparts, which I found surprising, in this day and age. It didn't seem to bother them though, I guess they were just used to it. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Given our recent discussions of Harleys. Maybe black motorcyclist are smarter than white motorcyclist, I know I'm generalizing a bit,
but hey, sounds like, according to the sticker, they prefer Honda's!!

Canyon, where did you get that seat?  I like the look of it.

Did you see that Spanish idiots have been giving Lewis Hamilton grief about his colour?

It couldn't be because he's a better driver than Fernando Alonzo could it?

What's that now, Spike?  Did you just call me a racist, or was that little wink there to imply sarcasm?

Listen, you'd do well to work on your reading comprehension before you make personal attacks on people.  I suggest you go back and get it straight in your head what you are talking about, as well as what I said.

I don't treat people differently based on their race, whether they want me to or not.  Being a white-guilt apologist is just as racist as being in the KKK, and even more damaging to minorities in the long run.

Of course, this whole thread was a total waste of time, and nothing more than a troll trying to get people riled up.  I should have known better than to post in it at all.

Thanks for wasting everyone's time, and trying to get people upset.

Gotta agree with you Ed on the divisive and pointless nature of topics like this.  About the only redeeming factor was Oldbikers' illustration of the correct spelling of the word 'colour'.

Well Ed you should know the answer to that since you know me so well . . .
the only comments in this thread telling people how to think are yours

but i do agree that this thread got a little out of hand (and pointless)
i think i'll just lock it , that is if i can komprihend how it's done    ::)
