Hi Matt ... your project looks good. I am still hopeful for a mid May finish with my CB350F. Got held up this last weekend doing my fork seals on my CBX400F so I can keep a machine on the road. Have some parts away getting chrome plated at present. Tell me, what oil do you think is best put in the engines, synthetic or mineral?
Keep up the good work. Cheers ... Phil in NZ
Thanks,
I have some chrome that I wish was a little better but I think I'll just keep my eye open for some better replacements after the bike is done. For now I just want to get it on the road
I was just thinking last night about which oil I should use. I've heard that synthetics don't work well with these old engines as the bearings are not designed for it. Also, I've had the clutches slip on other engines by running non-motorcycle specific oil before. I think I'm going to go with a high grade mineral oil for mine, but I think I'm going to start going through some of the great oil debate threads on this forum before I decide for sure. At any rate, I don't think synthetics are worth the gamble when mineral oil will work just fine.
That is looking absolutely FANTASTIC. Can't wait to see it with that gorgeous looking engine in.
I'd love the tank on mine to look as wonderful as yours, mine has a few scratches which spoil it a bit, but then it's original and in 35 years it's bound to get some! In a way I like it as it does show it's originality. But then I can't help feeling jealous when I see one as clean as yours will be...
Thanks too
I'm trying to pay a lot of attention to detail with this one. Each part I put back on is either cleaned, painted or polished. I'm anxious to see it with the engine in as well. My machinist cut his thumb about four weeks ago and has been waiting for it to heal to finish my head. He said were going to get back at it this week. Not much left to do other than finish up the porting and grid the seats.
I think it's awesome that you have an original painted 350F loony
, I think it's way better to keep it that way with a few scratches than to freshen it up with new paint. Mine was just too rough to recover; paint was faded beyond repair
Matt.
