Ahhh, the return of the forum's prodigal "fair weather England supporter"! Welcome back Steve, I expect you'll hang around while England's fortunes are on the improve? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry, that's a below the belt shot. You know very well that PC doesn't allow us to blow our trumpets unless we're losing, and here's one good man that's bucking the trend. ;)

Yeah Terry and Rhos as far China goes if they decide that the "west" is redundant they've got enough population to absorb their production and we can go back to being quaint natives for the new tourists.
Bill the demon.
Ps. as far as cricket goes I won't comment, being as how I prefer more of a blood sport such as rugger or lacrosse.

Ricky Ponting must be reading this thread  :-\

In his post-match interview this lunchtime he was very gracious in defeat, admitted that dropping that catch was bad and refused to bite on the BBC's fairly lame attempt to get him to criticise the umpires for one or two fairly iffy decisions that went in England's favour.

He got quite a big cheer from the Lord's crowd (that's a first then!)

Good on 'im.

Yep, can't argue there Steve, I too thought one of the umpires (Rudy) was off his game, but there's no denying that England played much better in the second test than we did.

No matter, it's still only early days, and as much as the last Ashes series was just about Australia smashing England into submission, it was also kinda........ boring?

I'm glad that England has had a little morale booster at Lords, I've noticed that when they're losing, their morale just goes out the window, and it's no longer entertaining to watch them play. I'm looking forward to Edgbaston! ;D

Hi Terry, I just wonder why the "professional" English batsmen played so many amateurish shots. Was it panic? On the village green in a Sunday match you will see week-end players who know how to get behind the ball when defending. I'm not making excuses, they were rubbish. I'll stick to my bike.  John.

Hi guys.

Been away in France for two weeks.

No TV, no papers, just sunshine with empty roads...

So what's been going on?

Ha ha, yeah John, I was watching Mike Atherton being interviewed on the ground during the lunch break on day two. There were some kids playing behind him, and he said that these 10 year olds were playing more professionally than the English cricket team!

One thing I've mentioned before is that even though Strauss made the grandiose comment that they no longer fear the Australians, I've noticed that if they're on the back foot like they were in this match, they just seem to lose their morale so quickly, you really can see it on their faces, and as I mentioned to Simon, I was so surprised to see them (Swann and Broad) fighting back, when the rest of their team had basically thrown the towel in.

Kudos to them, but the rest of the team certainly weren't earning their pay........... Enjoy your summer John, I hope you're getting out on your bike mate, I'm looking forward to some sun, and some warmth to go with it! Cheers, Terry.

Shame that Freddy didn't really perform with bat or ball...

However, he'll be remembered for that one throw for a long time!  ;D

Thanks for that.  Today in 1812 the British Army walked into Washington DC and set fire to the White House. Where were you lot 8 years ago when we really needed it.  ;D

I saw that on the news and it puzzles me. I live in NY which people mistakenly feel is a an unsafe place. If one of our teams wins a Championship, people pour out of the Bars and run around throwing up. In other "safe coties" they turn over cars and set fires and bust up shops.
What I saw today on that Soccer riot was nuts, we always look at the Brits as being somewhat civilized.

This riot was organised Bobby, most of the people fighting on the street had not been to the game.
This sort of thing was like crazy in the 70/80s but this is an isolated happening.
