Topic: Brake caliper

Hi Guys
Heres the scenario. Overhauled front brake caliper 77 cb550. new seal in piston chamber, totally renewed master cylinder with rebuild kit, new braided lines, new pads so in other words completely new brake system. I had a stripped bleed nipple thread so got a kit to fit helicoil insert which i did. Problem I have is that the system wont bleed and i cant get any pressure. I have noticed that the fluid is still coming out of the bleed nipple when it is closed so I think what is happening is that the nipple is not seating properly in its housing so I have probably gone too far when i drilled the thread out. Any comments appreciated. I have a spare caliper with a bleed nipple housing that looks ok but the brake line fitting thread is stripped. Is it possible to put a helicoil in this fitting and if so what size is it? Am I on the right track regarding the seeping brake fluid?

If I'm right you are on the right track I want to say the seat is tapered to fit the bleeder I did the same thing with my 750 drilled to much out and the bleeder would not seat properly .  I used a spare caliper. Hope this helps.

I had this happen as well but it was the brake line side. turns out that the seat on the nut was messed up and looked like it was gouged. changed that out with another line and the leak went away.

They do lots of nice, but expensive tools---watch out for the postage costs, if there is anything else you want get it at the same time

Cheers for that Bryan. Can you confirm that the drill bit I need is 8.5mm and a 1/8 tap bearing in mind that I have helicoiled the bleed nipple thread already as that was the original problem until my heavy handedness caused this latest one?

It gives full instructions on the pack the repair kit comes in and its a while since i did one so check that.
Rip out the helicoil before trying to drill/tap as the coil is so hard it will wreck the tools

Afterthought i remember it was an NPT tap (Tapered pipe thread)
