Good point Llyod so let me expand on your analysis.....when the lower cases were split the guy doing the work (after I failed the first time) cleaned the lower cases throughly (and I am certain of this) - so I have to assume that if cases were cleaned spotlessly and circlip was replaced as should have been, then either he dropped something in trans when re-assembling and didnt notice or the circlip failed again for a reason that hasnt yet been fixed - and may be on its way out - if the latter is the case then time will tell and I will eventually get the crunching gear sound I have gotten twice before now. I dont think the latter is the case either as this guy was very anal about things - although he did mess up my kickstart (dosent work anymore) so perhaps I have too much faith in his abilities.....hard to say without ripping the engine apart and not something Im inclined to do this year...(.already have the K4 engine waiting to be removed from the frame!)

I hope not but unless I find anything out of the ordinary in the filter area Im not quite sure what else to think. Perhaps Ill be lucky and nothing will come of it.... ::) Anyway Ill keep everyone posted as this bikes gets used more once the snow melts.

Thanks for all the comments so far and maybe its not such a bad idea to periodically check the oil pump screen.

cheers
Andy

After raeding the part about the cases being split and cleaned well I'm pretty sure that fiber stuff came off the cleaning rags

So in addition to leaving loose parts, he has pussified your bike by diabling the kickstart. Oh the shame!!!  ::)

Yeah I know...I will NEVER give this guy my business again and have since warned off many others.

Lesson learned....it was after this episode I met Mike Rieck.....what a difference - night and day!

Yep, that mechanic is a pussy, he never uses the kickstart and he has been comissioned by a secret society of pussies to pussificate every bike with kickstarter.

Conspiranoid theory aside for the moment, @Two-Tired did not highlight that oil is pumped from the oil reservoir through the transmission shafts into the clutch housing as well as through the filter onto the bearings.  This happens when the relief valve is opened under excess oil pressure conditions.  Any debris that is picked up in the reservoir may indeed drip into the pan (via transmission or via bypass) and ends up on the sump screen or bottom of the pan.  Its very possible that the debris is a mix of clutch disk filings, transmission filings, gasket sealer,...as well as pussy material.

This straight from my copy of the K8-F3 shop manual - but, should be a fairly accurate representation of what is happening in all the different year motors?

Andy I just found this same type stuff in my pan and in the oil pump mesh screen.  It's like some sort of fuzz.

Well Sweep if you work out what it is let me know! I still have to check my oil filter but its been too cold for garage work recently. Did you ever use red rags during your engine work? Thats one possibility.....

I hope your bike is running better now (I saw your other threads).

cheers
Andy

Possibly of that the gasket sealer goes thru some morphing process and turns to string.  I had it in the pan as of my top end rebuild of 1 week ago and I have it in the pan again after a couple hours of riding the bike.
