The Falcon XB had nothing in common with the torino man..

Ok; so tell us which USA Ford is it based on? My info said it was the Torino which they called a Falcon in Oz.

From what i read of the XBs when i was researching building a Mad Max clone it sounded like the XB was completely different car...pretty much an aussie only body style. I had briefly considered tracking down a Torino to use as a base for said clone because of the simularity.

Interested in obtaining an XB?
The XB Falcon is the most popular of Australian Falcons with the American market. It may be the similarity to the Mach 1 Mustang or the almost similar shape of the Torino. Or it could be the fact that the Mad Max Interceptor was created from an XB Falcon.  This is straight from the link you posted up 736.

And to add to it...the Falcon XB has ties back to the original US Ford Falcon from back in the 60s...Basicly the XB has more in common with the Falcon and Mustang then it does with the Torino.

The Mad max car my bud owns is absolutely awesome. I'd love to own one if the right opportunity arises. It is the blackest, meanest looking and sounding car I've ever had the pleasure of playing with.
On a side note, the "blower" in the movie-car is actually fake and belt-driven by a starter motor (Mel Gibson lifts a lever- umm, blowers aren't actuated, they're continually belt-driven off the crank.)!

G'Day Guys, well, there are no "genuine" Mad Max "clone" cars Andy, because they only made one for the first movie, and totally destroyed a second "stunt" car in Mad Max 2. The one remaining original movie car was sold to a "celebrity movie car" museum in Britain, where it remains the most popular exhibit. Your mate can buy it though, for a cool 1 million US dollars, I believe.

Anyway, Scott Smith here in Melbourne (who had nothing to do with the original car, in fact, he has never seen it up close) built that car and sold it to your mate, and it was featured in a magazine and a documentary, and other Mad Max fans in the US and Japan ordered several more, so he builds them and sells them worldwide. To Scott's credit they are very close to the original car, which was built for peanuts, in fact the first movie was made for 300,000 bucks, and grossed over 200 million, and was second only to The Blair Witch Project in achieving the highest return from a movie in history.

Scott has done a lot of research and built the fibreglass "Monza" front and rear wing etc, from original moulds, and has actually developed a working supercharger that he can switch on and off just like Max did, it looks just like the non working one in the movie, and if you order one of his cars, he'll sell you one as an option.

While there are probably similarities in all Ford designed cars, the XA, and then XB coupes drew some vague styling cues from the Mustang lineage, in particular the Mach 1, if it wasn't for "Starsky and Hutch", no-one in Oz would know what a Torino was. Any similarity between US and Aussie Ford Falcons disappeared in the mid 1960's though, so from about 1967 onward, our Falcons probably only shared some mechanical components, like those lovely Cleveland and (less lovely) Windsor V8's, the magnificent 9 inch diff etc. And to my knowledge, all the Aussie built Falcons after then were Aussie designs.

If you're thinking about building your own Mad Max cars, be aware that the XA and XB coupes were pretty thin on the ground even back in the 1970's, and are quite collectible, even those that suffered as they did from extensive rust-outs, the 1970's Fords deserved the "Rust Bucket" tag, more than any other car in history, apart from any British car, of course. As a side note, I actually got a close up look of the original car after Mad Max 1 and sat in it too, so among all the other lingering historic smells in that car, are some choice "Terry Farts", ha ha! ;D  Here's a pic of an XB coupe, as you can see, it shares very little with the Torino. Oh, and I forgot to answer another question, yes, the new Pontiac G8 is an Aussie Holden Commodore SS.

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That's pretty cool about the cars and all but here's something that gets MY attention! ;) In fact, it got MY attention so much (at first) I tried to put it in for BOTM! (didn't think about the Wing not being considered a SOHC4 because it wasn't an inline motor though.

                                   Kghost's Wing

Thanks to Bob W. for pulling it up for me, for some reason, I couldn't seem to locate Tim's gallery. ::)

I think so too Terry. No problem on the hijack by anyone though, I'm just as guilty. Anybody can drift and then can easily snowball. :) The Aussie cars were interesting, I'd heard about and seen pictures of some and thought there could have been SOME sales elsewhere, IF the general public had been aware of them. Might have not be significant enough sales though. Take care Terry.

BTW, I still haven't heard anything from Kghost and will let you all know when I do.

                                       Later on, Bill :) ;)

Hey all,

I'm still alive.

Bill, I emailed you several times...did ya get any of them?

Works kind of settled out. Got some more help now and I'm slowly getting back to work in the shop.

Shop is a mess...can't find anything after 8 months of thrashing around and not working in it.

Bikes are a mess in need of servicing, general maintenance and a good cleaning. I realized the other day the Goldwing hadn't been started in 4 months.

I bought another house....so of course that took a bit of time and $. Remodeling, landscaping etc.

Got a new friend, nice Kiwi girl that was just over for three months. So that took a bit of time up lol.

Anyways, I hope to be around a bit more in the future.

Regards

Tim

Hey Tim. Good to see you're still with us. ;) Yeah I got an email from you and replied back. Guess you didn't get that one though. Didn't say anything cause i didn't know when you'd be popping in. Better get on out of here for now.

                               Take care,   Bill :) ;)
