What's up with the forum? Just had a heck of a time getting on and the page is all changed?

I don't know about the page all changing - unless you had the informational page from the webserver between my switch to new software and getting the site back up.  I ran into some problems once a lot of people came on and I'm working to fix them now.

The only time I look like Heffay imagines is when I'm trying to sort out my laptop which runs Windows Vista - I'ved damn near tossed it out the window a few times, but I'm going to save such extreme measures for the day when I'm standing next to Steve Balmer or Bill Gates - if I get that chance, I'll club either one of them over the head with it.

The SOHC/4 webserver runs on a Linux system and I have a lot more control over things.  If the current hosting plan proves insufficient, I have an upgrade path and it only takes a day or so to move to the next level.

Hey Glen, I ain't knocking your work. I'd look like Heffay's picture if I was running the show. ;D ;D
Still the best bike forum by far.

Well, here's where I usually go to enter this site: http://forums.sohc4.net/
It USED to be REALLY Quick......now I'm typically waiting 30 seconds (no, it's not dial-up or even DSL) and sometimes it just crashes all together with some lame message that the whatever it's looking for "just went away".  I click on "REPLY" to make this post and another 30 seconds of waiting for a response.  I really don't have any room to be griping here, since it's such a great site that I don't know what I'd do without it.  But they (Glenn) DID ASK for input.  :-\

I've always assumed the site was cleverly designed to mimic a SOHC4;
works great unless it doesn't.

Sometimes when I go straight to the forums, I get this message:

Database Error: MySQL server has gone away
File: /var/www/forums.sohc4.net/www/Sources/Security.php
Line: 272Database Error: MySQL server has gone away
File: /var/www/forums.sohc4.net/www/Sources/Load.php
Line: 2008

I hit "reload" (sometimes a few times) and it eventually works.  ???

It's taken me 6 hours to get on tonight. When I did get on, it was in a diferent format and I had to log on.
When I did log on, it said the page could not be found.
I tried a few mins later and all was well ???

I cleared my browser's cache and deleted all the cookies and haven't seen that message for about an hour now.  Some pages load a little slow.  This reply page took about 30 seconds.  My messages took about the same the first time after clearing the cache, but it loads pretty quick now.  I guess once some pages are cached things will go quicker.?

I recently bought a new laptop that had Vista installed. The first thing I did was format the hard drive and install XP.

Thanks Glenn for all the work you put into this site.  It is the best SOHC site in the world because of the time you put into it for all of us.  Your efforts have been noticed and we thank you!!!

Just more tuning.  Its an iterative process...change some settings...let it run a bit...gather data...adjust...repeat...

Sounds like the process used when changing exhausts and going with pods!   :)
