Don't use the bracket the way it is intended. Use it to fab a bracket and mount it forward but behind the muffler. Much cleaner looking.

i have the mount strap going to the oil tank bolt. had to lengthen it about 2"
the strap, not the bolt. i'm actually thinking about getting rid of my kerker and getting one of these http://www.yamiya750e.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=670. nothing wrong with the kerker but i want a different look.

I did not like the bracket also.  So, I made my own from a piece of aluminum of similar dimensions.  I formed two bends to shape it similar to a lightning bolt which gave it an offset of about two inches.  I then polished it to a fine chrome like shine and attached it to the rear footpeg mount.  It looks great and works well, although the position of my mounting point gives much less up and down support than the Kerker design.  I just have to be sure that no one steps on the canister.

Unless that bracket cannot move up or down, it is not supporting the muffler very well at all.. it would work better for side to side movement than it does at supporting the muffler.

Why not  make a band around the muffler and a bracket to the peg bolt, then it would actually support the muffler for up and down movement..?

My support bracket looks almost identical to Sparty's, just bent more toward the middle rather than toward the end.  I agree with 754 that it will not give much up and down support, but my 77K has the rear pegs several inches higher than Sparty's so I do get a little support.

My bracket provides plenty of support.  I used locking washers to mount it and I can push down hard on the muffler and it doesn't move at all.  Trust me, it is solid, otherwise, i would not use it.

Sparty have you run without the tailpipe/baffle?  I've been doing it and it sounds like a race bike.  Loud but not too loud.  I took a ride to Red Bank, NJ near me, sort of a hipster mainstreet USA place that attracts people from all over.  I couldn't pull away after parking because people were not only appreciating the bike visually but at least 5 people said it sounded awesome.

The reason I took the pipe off is because of ongoing motor work but I sort of like it.  Probably losing some power down low but who is ever down low on our bikes.  ;D

Sweep,

No, I have not had the baffle out.  I am running the 2 inch comp baffle and it is plenty LOUD.  You can here it scream in my .wav file on my build page.

I have the same one from Buzz.  I've never had the bike running right with that back pipe on but I'll try it again and check out the wav file.
