I have a 72K motor that has around 5g on it, but it is stuck.

He can have that if we can figure out how to get it to him.

Perfect! A while ago, someone was selling a bunch of the "K" engines from a sand-covered shed in the Southwest, but I didn't have the $$ then to get one. I wanted 2, one for this sort of thing and another for me...

HM, by Timkens do you mean just the brand or tapered roller Timkens??. goy lots of experience on them..

Timkens' metals are better, and they have some tighter tolerances in the balls-races interface. They do well at speed and side loads, which are not native loads for ball bearings.

i HAVE AN IDEA, I know the guy that owns world pack. He has helped me ship bikes to Englan and Japan on the cheap if he had extra space on a contanor. He does cross country stuff as well.

If we can get a list of what we got and where it is we might beable to work somthing out.

Hey, "G"; check out my revised post above. If we can all agree on this stuff, maybe we can go at it.

Maybe someone besides me should follow the costs?

A few things I wonder about..

like,

who puts money or time or parts in?

what happens to it when it is done?

I think we should do it with a magazine feature in mind..& or a booklet form to sell later.

I think we should get Dale Walker to test it in the 1/4 mile..

What if we shared costs and donations and built a bike to sell to benefit the site?  That way if one person does a lot of work on it they could get some of their time compensated..

Of course it is not up to me to decide and we should maybe see what others think..

I think I might have to save up my pennies for a genuine "Hondaman Special"! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

I guess you could save up for a genuine "HondaMan Special"......

And, if this works, maybe I'll go into business...  ::)

or.... maybe you could go by the book....

I have a proposition for this task: if I made a book of the process, would others be interested in a copy? I've been working on one for the tranny already, and I'm getting ready to make one for "how to restore the oil pump" on the 750. If I photo-documented everything from the tires to the steering head bearings, too, then made a book, it might be a useful thing. MRieck could do this about making more HP, I'm sure, but my approach has always been a well-rounded, all-purpose bike for the general populace, so I don't go for max HP in my builds (at least, since I quit racing, anyway), just more-than-stock HP. But, first-rate handling and brakes, for safety reasons, are top-drawer priorities from me...

My concept for this type of book: a slim 3-ring binder with a package of pre-holed, paged inserts, organized by chapter and section (can you tell that I've been making machinery manuals for over 20 years, too?). This is how I've always kept all my own notes, so I can add to them in future endeavors. The notebook will have pockets, too, just 'cuz they are handy.

I like the business plan Mark.  After reading 754's question, I went back and read the edit on page 2.  If the buyer isn't agreeable to your target price, perhaps you'd want to do a SOHC4.net raffle for it.  Once enough numbers are sold to hit the target price, there's a draw for it.

Also, I'd buy the book.

This is a fantastic idea.  I especially like the book part.  This documentation will be invaluable to future builders.  I would buy one and can offer some assistance putting it together.

Spoken like a true Lotto player!

I don't know how to take that.

Just thinking of a way to finance it if your potential buyer doesn't like the idea of you making $500 off of building a whole freaking bike ::) ::)

Well, with any venture, businesslike or not, there's always a risk. Doing a numbers-like raffle seems to me to speak to the riders who would like to play for a chance for a new bike. The difficulty for me is that I suddenly lost my job when the company lost its financing in January, so I am $$ strapped enough to not be able to fund any part of it except the labor itself. So, there has to be a way to make it worth everyone's while, if they join in. A Lotto-like raffle might work, except I would wonder about the transportation costs to get it to the winner.  ???

I just e-mailed my potential buyer and earlier today, he said it sounded OK to him at $2500 for a fully-rebuilt CB750K. Then, about 2:30 PM, my reply to his response got bounced back, because the company he worked for (my alma mater) went Chapter 7 today. Holy smokes!  :o

Build it anyway Mark, I'm sure you'll have no problem selling it.

The shipping to Oz wouldn't make it worthwhile unless it was a K0, as K1-K6's here go for around 4000-5000 bucks, so by the time you airfreighted it to me, and I pay all the BS taxes, it's more than what I'd pay for a good one on my side of the pond.

If, however, you did "raffle" it off, and say, tickets sold at no more than 100 bucks each, it'd make it worthwhile, not just for me, but for a lot of other "HondaMan Special Wannabes" around the globe! Cheers, Terry. ;D
