Need to find a different rubber compund. Everything was fine until the engine got to operating temp. The engine side got softer and expanded.

I was tweaking the idle, start and warm up settings . Had it idling pretty good and the warm up enrichment was working ok, started to lean it out so it would rev up and it quit. Thats when I noticed the manifolds went to hell.

this may sound silly as i dont know a thing about rubber and the like BUT could you melt down some good manifolds from a different bike and use that melt to make your manifolds?

I dont know, I will look into it and see if that would work. It would probably be to hot to use silicon rubber molds. I would need metal molds. I'm looking into having some injection molded, but I figure its going to be too expensive. Could someone measure the temperature at the intake manifolds after its good and hot. These should have held up to 180 degrees, didnt figure it would get that hot there, but thats what I get for assuming. (edit) I researched melting rubber down, its not possible after the rubber is vulcanized it just burns, thats why there are used tires laying everywhere.

I realize I have no basis for my thinking and am entirely too late to be joining this conversation.... but....

You gotta remember that the temperature differences between a full fairing bike (possibly water cooled) and a naked bike (so to speak) such as our 30 40+ year old bikes at the intake manifold is going to be huge (relatively speaking)

I know that most rubber intakes are prone to stiffness and cracking but have you thought about composites? We have been using composite material to funnel intake air for mass production mills upwards of 200+ degrees at the motor base.

Just a thought.

I dont mind hearing different ideas. What is the composite your using? can you point me to a data sheet? I have 2 plans of attack at this time. I got a set of 02 gsxr throttles coming that have inlets and outlets that look just like a carb, so I can use some radiator hose like mentioned above. I also contacted a manufacturer of reproduction rubber parts for cars and bikes. His rubber compound is supposed to be good to 250f. Just got the sample and will do some testing on this.

Talking ideas... IF you have enough space - it should be easy to produce a metal flange to imitate carb body outlet, to fit the radiator hose, as well as weld, or otherwise connect this flange to the injection body, BUT would that leave enough space??
This flange doesn't need to be long, though...

I considered that also, it makes it too long. Sent out my molds to be used with the new rubber compound. He wanted $125 each for him to make new molds, so we agreed he would try to use my molds first.

Yeah, Got a set or working manifolds now. Ended up cutting off the manifolds where they where melting and bonded the original manifold to the new ones with flexane and flexane primer. Has been working well so far. I changed to a mallory fuel pump that allowed me to mount it under the battery box. The brushes failed within about 1 hour of running??? put in a new set, been fine so far. Had problems with the alternator charging, got that fixed (wiring mistake when I made the new harness). Had problems with running ignition with the microsquirt, changed back to the dyna 2000. Bike idles well now, hot starts are good. Still working on cold starts. Have a rough fuel map in place, revs very quickly. When some time is available will finalize the tune. Haven't had time to work on it lately. I will try to get some new pics up on my site.

So you have an external fuel pump, then? What is it from?

How does the airbox connect?

Yes, its an external, Its a mallory 60 fi for a car. I'm finishing adapters for pod air cleaners this weekend.

I'll definietely be following this. Done a few megasquirt installs. B&G and I don't see eye to eye anymore on a lot of things though now and I won't be giving them any more of my money. Will be desgining my own board for the job, or possibly using the MiniMS setup. But in any case the principles remain the same! Hope you get everything ironed out!

I had alot of issues with the dual tach ignition setup. Documentation was almost non-existant, had to read there forums for about a day before I could figure it out. The alpha-n and AN blended info is also hard to find without alot of reading on the forum. Still dont understand how this is setup completely. I have to say though once you know how it works, it works pretty well, and its cheaper than any other ECU that I know of.
