I haven't looked at the GSXR tank yet but would it be possible to cut out the section of the Suzuki tank that houses the fuel pump and have it welded into the Honda tank.? Just tossing idea's around...

what about modd'n a Sportster tank... they have EFI now and it use's a GM fuel pump setup!

I guess that can be done depending on the tank? I have a modified 550 tank, with very little space.. So will go for a external fuel pump.. Any suggestions anyone ??:) As small as possible :):)

I just want to fit it into a stock K2 tank. The only thing i could see being a problem is the height of the pickup inside the tank.

The auto alternator may work, did not know about it until already started on vfr modification. Did some current measurements. Saw as much as 22 amps through the alternator output wire. It takes 14 amps when the switch is turned on with the headlight on low. 9.3 amps on but not running.
taillight takes 1.6a
headlight 6.9 a low beam
fuel pump 4 amps  (idle)
coils 2.5 amp (idle)
injectors 2 amps (idle)
total 17 amps
17 times 14.5v = 246 watts just run at idle
The auto puts out 290 watts according to info on this thread, probably would just barely keep up
vfr is rated at 497 watts according to a quick search on google, plenty of power.

Here it is possible to save some amps on the headlight.. but a bit expensive :'(

I was thinking about this last night,  there are some import cars with pretty small alternators, I wonder if one could be gutted and the parts fit into the bike parts?
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Ok, agreed on $400 bucks for the parts, here are the pics
starter ring gear and clutch installed on vfr800 flywheel

Cant get dimensions right now my digital caliper decided to quit working, got the reg/rec today too will get this put together and tested on saturday.
DI'm going backward through the thread looking for the carb spacing, and I saw the post where you have dimensions. Do you remember what the length of the taper adapter is?
Sorry no, but is the length of the taper on the crank plus a half mill or so it presses it on when its tightened up.

I tried every way I could think of to fit the pump in the tank but could not find a way to make it work. If u figure out a way post it!

I was thinking of removing the fuel pump from the Suzuki tank,cutting  the section where it fits into the Suzuki tank and trying to weld it into the Honda tank so it would be as easy to fit just like the Suzuki one.{does that make sense?}  I haven't looked at the Suzuki tank yet, do you know if it would work like that?

The problem is the bottom of the honda tank is not wide enough to do that. You might be able to squeeze it in by making a smaller flange and an entire new smaller pump assembly.

hey... just thinking out loud... indirectly related to the topic...

Could we take the EFI system from a mid-80's civic or something and stuff it in our bikes? I'm thinking (maybe Im way off): fuel pump, injectors, throttle body, tps, fast idle, o2 & map sensors, rpm pickup?, ecu... OBD0 are programable (aren't they?). Tune the injector to fit our cc's.

Would that be more costly and a bigger headache? Has that been done before?

Looks like i will have to check out a pile of late model injected bikes to see which one has the most compact set up and maybe modify the bottom of the Honda tank to suit if there is enough room....

It would be nice to have the pump inside the Tank..

I had to correct the 19.4mm for 19.5mm quote as it would result in a non parallel spacer...

I am in the process of making this swap and providing accurate drafts of parts to be machined, just waiting to get the VFR parts.

So if the information provided is exact and this swap is as easy as it seems, there should be a complete write-up with drafts describing the parts to be machined for this swap, in few weeks.

I think the main problem there would be packaging - that system was designed with ample room to store the ECU, fuel pump, etc. - all space that isn't available on a bike.

why are you guys still going on about tanks... CHECK OUT the 07+ HD sportster tank... ITS narrow.. and EFI... you could addapt that system intake to the CB750 easy i looked into doing that on an extra tank i have!

Because a damaged Suzuki tank is a #$%* load cheaper than a late model Harley tank, i want to cut the whole section with the pump and mount out of the Suzy tank and make it fit in the old Honda tank. If i could find a accident damaged late model sportster here in OZ i would give it a go....

Actually, if i could find someone there in the states that could cut out the relevant section and send it over that would be absolutely ideal as shipping is a killer as well.  Do you have any idea what type of pump they use.?...brand would help.

GM the whole darn HD is run by a Delphi EFI system.. TPS... IAC... injector... map... crank sensor... ECM.. and yes the PUMP!

Thanks a lot HT, i am still doing a bit of a search to find out what exactly is the smallest in tank fuel pump, looking into injected dirt bikes as well but if i find anything i nee from the States i would really appreciate the help. This is will be done in the last phase of my build so it may be some time away, thank you very much for the offer..
