That's almost as bad as asking what engine oil is best. :o :o

Don't expect a consensus on topics like this one, you'll get a different answer from every person asked.  The one part I will answer is about price.  The best price for chain I've found is at loudfastugly.com.

+ 1  - I bought a Tsuabki HDQ chain from these guys for $40 - very good chain! Any o-ring chain (RK, Tsubaki) will do for your K4. On my K4 Ive used Tsuabki Sigma, Tsubaki Omega and now running an RK O-ring chain. If you want less maintenance and long life get an o-ring. If you want to spend less $$s and have regular maintenance get a cheaper regular chain. Both work.

One thing to watch out for is that some people have reported that their engine case got eaten by an o-ring chain. Make sure you check your clearance.

Yeah I work a copule of miles from loudfastugly and bought two chains from him. Great price and an OK guy also.

I think that was on a 550/500 Eldar. Never had an issue with the 750. Both my K2 and K4 have O-rings and thousand of miles of use.

I am running an x-ring chain on my 750 K4.  I think I spent around $55.

One thing I would like to point out is that you don't "need" an o-ring chain.  Many people use them, I have one on my 750, but they are in no way a necessity.

x ring chains, o ring chains, some manufactures have coloured chains is that any indication of quality.  And also what size do I need? How would I calculate chain pitch?

Neil,
If you have stock sprockets (18 front/48 rear) then a 102 link 530 chain will fit your 74 750. You can chose yourself based on finances or personal preference whether you want an x-ring, o-ring or standard. If you are not riding it at top speed everywhere then a regular heavy duty chain from loudfastugly.com will be sufficient.

cheers
Andy

Well you can probably find "kits" that allow the use of other than 530 chain, but I don't know why you ask? Regardless, make sure you replace the chain AND sprockets as a set.

I don't know why people assume that an "O" ring chain requires less maintenance than a non "O" ring chain though, the grease inside the chain links on an "O" ring chain only protects the INSIDE of the chains links and rollers, the outside of the links and rollers, and the sprockets, still need regular lubing, so it's all a bit silly to assume that an "O" ring chain is somehow "low maintenance" compared to a non "O" ring chain. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Low maintenance" to me means I dont have to undo the rear bolts and manually adjust the chain as often. Simple. No big deal to do that but its still less work  ;)

Cheers
