going down to check out the speedmaster and the america
i'm thinking it's that or the harley 1200 roadster
got a opinion?

I don't know HD models much, but I've heard tons of good things about the 1200 Sportster and it's various iterations. I think there's a reason the America doesn't sell well; it basically a Bonneville with bad turning abilities, isn't it?

I've also heard a lot of good things said about the triple. It would be the best handling of the 3 as far as acceleration and actually turning goes.

get a speed triple or a street triple....or, one of the vintage triumph's like a bonnie, scrambler, or thruxton...

Either wait for the 1700 twin cruiser or go for any of the triples.

There's something about a Triumph triple that is similar to what we all feel for our old SOHCs

Next on my agenda when the 550 is back up and running is one of these babies

The governing authorities have OK'd the funding, but if I get one now the CB will end up not getting finished

The Speedmaster & America models I have ridden did not impress me too much. They looked good but were dogs, they since have increased the CCs on those bikes I believe. My wife has a 2000 883 Custom Sportser that I love to ride. I look goofy as all get out on it, but just a neat bike.

I personally would pick a new Bonneville T100 (with the dual gauges, Tach and speedo). I think it has the real classic look...

went to the dealer and gave up on the speedmaster because of the foot forward controls
the bonnyville caught my eye and i like it a lot
set up just like the old bonnyville better motor
dealer sayes 65hp and lots of low end torque
1000 bucks on accessories does well for a new intake and exhaust with them rejetting the carb
the only thing that the harley has is more local dealers
triumph has only three in michigan
the triple speed is too much like a crotch rocket

the modern triumph is also one of the most trouble free motorcyc;es being made today, when i worked at a dealer in connecticut the only thing i ever saw a modern trump come in for was regular maintenance, very rarely did they come in with an actual problem. BIG change from the classic triumphs i started on 20 years ago.

If it's an '08 model Bonneville, you'll find that those carb castings sneakily hide the fuel injectors. No rejetting - just a replacement engine ECU map.

there are carbs on the 08, saw them
they have heaters on them for cold starts
the guy said to turn the ignition on for abojut a minute then go for a start
and he did use the term rejet

That's not an 08 model then. It must be left over from last year.

I went on a Hinckley factory tour last July and they were building the first of the )* Fi Bonnevilles. The engineers were very proud of the way they had concealed the injectors in dummy carb bodies.

The change is purely to meet the latest emission laws - carbs are doomed I'm afraid (on new bikes anyway)

My local dealership is a Ducati seller but just added Triumph.some really nice bikes (i'm thinking Scrambler)

the spoked wheels on the sport classic ducatis are what sets them off. I love it! (though I sat on a paul smart in the showroom, I didn't fit very well on it since I'm 6'2 $:-\$ )

I have a hard time getting over the unbalanced rear shock! Love the looks of those bikes except for that. One of the three new models has a balanced stance, forget which one it was though....

don't like fairings
gotta feel the air in my chest and get pushed back on the seat

The Europeans have introduced EURO-3 emissions specs this year and Fi is the only answer.

Nothing a O2 Sim and aftermarket exhaust cant handle...

I just looked at those specs. Isn't that a lot of motor for a little horsepower these days? Seems to me our SOHC 750s turned out close to that 30+ years ago?

your right about the horsepower being about the same
but remember that they rated horsepower different in those days
i've been told that the old 750's are really about 58hp by todays standards

That still leaves me thinking that new Triumph doesn't turn out much hp for a motor that size. The 955 in my (and Steve too) Sprint is over 100 horses. What gives? Does the computer and Fi make that much difference?

My mum has a 06 Bonnie it's gorgeous. I think the Bonnies are more about torque, stick it in a high gear and stay there kind of thing.

HD makes and sells 350,000 motorcycles a year. Why not get something that is a little different and which you won't see someone else on at every ride.
