Tank Emblems
« on: February 06, 2008, 05:50:15 PM »
Im in the process of getting my tank repainted black. Lets just say I think the gold emblems are truly sick looking, plus the white lettering is flaking off. I would like some silver or chrome ones for my 74 cb550. Thinking of blasting these. Any ideas.

I refuse to pay $45 for an OEM set on ebay, plus I like chrome "HONDA" tank badges too so what I'll do is go to my local salvage yard and snatch a couple of badges from the trunk of two old Honda Civic cars. I haven't measured them but they look the right size, they are chromed and smooth as opposed to raised edge lettering.

Ditto. I'm going to strip the tank, fill in the mounts, and repaint. Then one of the old Honda "Wing" decals....

I recently got a set for my RS race bike which has a black tank and they stand out very nice.

They would only be about $15 I would guess plus post.

Let me know if you want his email address.

Maybe those are not exactly tank badges, but they maybe they can be an inspiration?

not sure if those emblems are aluminum,in my 78k they were gold anodized aluminum but i sanded them, with an electric orbital sander fine grit,120,then 400 grit then 2000 grit and buffed, background of emblem was painted semi gloss black, they look chrome now, no more gold, when you paint the background you will have to carefully wipe the buffed raised letters with paint thinner to remove the paint, buff again carefully,,,i  love aluminum

Anyone know where you can get this one in both directions for a tank?

Read my earlier post, you can get them for half that price.

I think my plan is to paint them black and then sand the high part of the lettering till silver.
