Drag Bars 74 cb550
« on: February 10, 2008, 10:15:28 am »
I searched and found different results on this. I just ordered a 27.5 drag bar for my 74 cb550  the only worry I have is withe the cables and MC. People have said that its not that big of deal etc. Others say you have to shorten cables, and get a different MC. Anybody have experience in this situation?

I put drag bars on my 550 last Summer.  It can be done with the stock MC, but it takes some work.  You have to get the angle of the MC and the angle of the banjo bolt just right so the MC sits relatively level and there is still enough room at the end of the bar to get the throttle grip all the way on.

I can snap a pic and post it here if you'd like.

This is about the best shot I could get right now, but you can see how the end of the MC and banjo are nestled down between the tach and the handlebar mount.  It takes a little trial and error to get the angle of the banjo just right as you have to tighten the bolt before sliding the MC into place, because once you get it in there, you cant get at the bolt to tighten it anymore.

The angle of the brake lever is right where I like it in that position.

Looks good, I believe I am  capable of doing that. I feel like I can do anything on this bike after rebuilding the carbs.

I too had a hard time with this.Im still not sure as to the lengths of my cables if they are too long and the route of my brake line going from the MC to its othe connection. To me it does not look right. When I got everthing back together I tested the front brake and now it is locked up froze just like these Mich. temps. The MC  seemed to be level. I dont know what else to do but wait on my MC rebuild kit comin from feebay. Sorry for the HI JACK
