What I meant with this thread was..a lot of our bikes dont fit the project category..

Some were bought and ridden away, or are running after minimal work.

as opposed tp projects..which have to be resurrected before they can be ridden. That and I know at least 4 of ushave had our bike more than 30 years.

There was a point where they were current bike, then for a while they were almost undesireable (and pretty cheap!!), and  now.. AGAIN..they are quite sought after..

Quite a few on here that got a lot of enjoyment at 100 bucks a year... or less..

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

ok...I'll bite:

1999 - $800 1975 K5. I had to do a caliper rebuild on here which cost me $100 in parts. My buddies told me I overpaid. I have turned down offers of $2K:

2006 - $1600 1978 F Supersport. Didn't have to do anything to her for 2 months, then the fork seals went. I felt I overpaid until I looked at what dunstall tanks sell for on ebay:

2002 - $1000 1974 cb550 Chop. Rode her for a year before taking her down to nothing and rebuilding her. Still apart. Worth every penny.

2005- $600 1978 CB750F Supersport. Needed tires which cost me $100. Found that bike through a member of this board. No picture.

$800 for '81 CB650. Paid to have carbs rebuilt, and rebuilt the front caliper myself.

I don't know where you guys dig these bikes up. I probably paid three times what anyone else has paid after looking for about three years. I don't have facilities, tools,or know-how to rebuild a beater so I wanted a good runner and found this one which was rebuilt from the ground up by a retired Honda mechanic. Everything original including paint.

Ouch Feliz...that is one sharp looking bike.  Congrats!!!  I love the colors!!!  The shine is awesome.  How the heck did you get it off a Honda mechanic???  Must have sweet talked him.

Thanks. Believe me I paid for it. It's a long story, he was a Honda mechanic back in the seventies and also owned a 73 that he road on the street and then raced. About five years ago he got the notion to relive his youth and bought the bike for I think $300 and spent three or more years restoring it. I have pictures of it stripped down to the last nut and bolt and this guy is really anal so I had to buy it. I think he needed the money to help get his kids through college. It runs like a Swiss watch but cosmetically you can tell it's a 35+ year old bike, the paint being original has scratches etc and the chromes not perfect but I don't want to change anything, I like that it's original except for the seat and exhaust I believe. Oh I got about $2,000 in mostly NOs parts with the bike but I haven't put anything on yet.

Great looking bike Feliz. I just love the Flake Sunrise Orange color. I had a 74 CB550KO in that color and have had sellers remorse ever since I sold it.

Feliz, dont feel too bad these bikes are not always that cheap. I bought this one from a SOHC list member in 2003 and it was also stock, pristine condition. I sold it last year as I already another 2 CB750s (also sunrise orange) that needed my attention. The bike in the photo below was just too good looking for me to ride - paint was very very good and all stock.

This is what I have left....

Cheers
Andy

How many recall that jaw dropping first look? I do.  My first impression was "They stuck two motors on that bike", "How can anyone ride fast on something that wide?" "So Cool! Two pipes on both sides, with that wild upsweep." "Holy mackeral, a fricking disk brake!" "You can what? start it without having to kick it?!" "This is one gooood looking bike!"

Then there was the first ride...the bike just kept speeding up and up and up and I was waiting for the shaking front-end and thumping seat...and it never came.  "Man, 100mph! man! I wanna do that again - just gotta take my pulse first."

What do I have to do to get $1500.00?

I hear ya!! I had a mint 71 Norton Commando that I paid way more than I should have to get ($8,000) but was offered $10,000 for it and let it go a couple years ago just happy to get my money out of it and I've been sorry ever since. Even though I way overpaid for by CB750 I've been offered more than I paid but learned my lesson and there's no way I'm letting it go. The guy that bought my Norton has it sitting in his living room which irks me to no end, I rode it nearly every day.

Thanks Andy. I guess the bottom line is once you've got your ride enjoy it and don't dwell on whether you paid too much or too little. You must have been in utopia with three K4s in your garage!!

Tower: You got it perfect! I saw my first CB750 in the window of a shoe store of all places on Granville Mall in Vancouver in the summer of '69. I went straight to the Honda dealer and bought it. It was literally a traffic stopper. "What IS that thing?" was the most common question. The bike met a terrible end 5 weeks later.

Feliz: years ago I sold my '71 to a friend and never felt good about. A short while after he called to see if I wanted it. Yes!! It sits in my garage ready to go. I can't convince my wife to let me bring into the rec. room yet. People ask what it's worth and I have a one word answer - Priceless!

Cheers,
Cliff.

I worry far less about what I have to pay, than how long it took to get the money...

1985ish.  My first SOHC4- CB550K0.  Flake Sunrise Orange.  Technically it ran.  It had a small headlight held in with a wire coat hanger, the only light that worked on the bike(real dim, though).  Had to ride it home about 30 miles around the Washington D.C beltway from deep in Maryland to Virginia.  After dark.  Talk about a white knuckle ride!

$350 for this runner. Needed a couple little things, but not much.

$500 for this 836 chopper project. I finished it shortly after.

$250 for this baby. Sat outside for a while, but cleaned up real well.

$150 for this F model

Evan  -great blog and ADV thread as well! When is the big trip? Sounds like its going to be an epic. Any plans to head down to Mexico? I recommend it. I did a Boston to West Coast trip to Mexico and back in 2001 on a CB750 (1974) and loved it. Sounds like you have a similar appreciation for old bikes and long distance travel. Any plans to sell the `75 CB750F?  ;D

Best of luck and great blogs!
cheers

$1000 for my '80 CB650C in 2002.   Paid a little much with the cost of maintenance right after purchase, but that's what I get.

I didn't even know how to ride when I got it.  I Just realized that I don't have any pictures except for this one.  I'll have to take a few more when I get it painted and back on the road.
