how to  measure rim size to judge tyre size which will fit

The measurement is done with the tire off, from seating bead wall to bead wall.  This is the seated width of the tire.  The manufacturer should state which rim width is acceptable for the indicated tire.  Diameter is usually printed on the tire sidewall.  But, you could also measure tire bead seat to bead seat across the diameter of the rim.

thks   well i guess i could measure  with tyre on  measuring from outside of rim and deducting  thicknesses either side.

If it is a CB 750 up to 76 I can help.

for stock18 inch  rim, tire should be 4.00 - 4.50.around 110 -120.

but you can go 130 easily and 140 just starts to rub..

if it isa not one of the  above, please leave another clue..

Sure.  But the trick is to properly estimate the rim thickness.  For spoke wheels and steel rims, that is about 1/2 inch per side, or 1 full inch total.   The steel is folded at least twice, maybe 3 times.

I wouldn't want to go any larger on a stock rim, unless you have a K7 or K8.  These have wider rims, I'm told.
You want the 80 height,  or the 90?
