rear brake question
« on: August 04, 2005, 04:22:52 PM »
I have the 1978 CB750K8 and when I use the back brake, sometimes it stays on a little (drum brake). The brake wont fully release (if it sticks) until it comes to a complete stop and it rocks back just a hair. And I mean it only has to rock back a VERY, VERY small amount, just a hair.

The pads are not brand new, I was going to replace them this winter.
I dont know if they got anything on them in the past but they looked ok.

I was thinking it may be a weak spring...but I dont know enough about brakes to make any assumptions. I'm sure that with my luck it will be a symptom of forty or so possible problems. :(

Well I Have not done much with my brake but look at how much play you have in the lever from when you move the lever till the brake starts to engage. It may be too close. A weak spring could also be an issue.

If you have to rock back a bit, that usually means there is excessive drag on the brake when being applied.
You may want to look at the brake again and check the cam that moves the pads.

Yeah, that cam can overcenter just a hair. Won't let it release. Could be a weak spring too, I'd check it first (its the easiest).
