4/5 gear engagement - CB500K2
« on: February 16, 2008, 04:38:14 PM »
Question to the serious mechanics out there

Managed to get hold of a new middle shift fork to replace the badly worn one in my G'box.

Nice, but now, after assembling the shafts on the top crankcase, I can see why it wore out in the first place. In 4 & 5 gear, the throw of the fork doesn't really shift the engaging dogs deep enough, so I guess the problem is going to repeat itself, and that might be also the reason why those middle shift forks are almost impossible to find new!

By some grinding on the shaft and adding shims I might be able to move the 4 & 5 gear closer to the dogs but that would a really tricky operation.

Had anyone else dealt with this seemingly typical problem to the K0-1-2 CB500's? And if yes, how?

Thanks + will try to post some pics later.
