2nd to 3rd Shift problem
« on: February 18, 2009, 09:59:49 AM »
My friends CB750 K1 started having a problem when he shifts from 2nd to third over 7000 RPMS. IT shifts fine when he drives normal but when he gets on it and upshifts to third, the bike is still in 2nd gear. I tried it and it did the same thing for me. Weird. Anybody else ever have this problem. Also do you need to pull the engine to work on the transmission?

Does it pop out of gear, or just fail to upshift at all?

You do need to pull the engine to get at the shift forks and drum, but you can examine the selector mechanism by pulling the mission cover (the cover the shif shaft passes through) with the engine still in the frame.  I'd look there first, check for broken springs or bent pins on the shift drum.

Thanks for the reply. It does not pop out of gear and as long as the RPM's are below 7K it works fine.
