Topic: Frame ID Badge removal / re-install / powder or paint?

I will need to remove my ID Badge form my 750 frame before the re-finish.
Any tips on removal, especially re-riveting?
I planed on un-peening the rivets in the head tube, or dremeling the heads off.

I remember reading a thread on paint VS powder, but i cant find it. I searched the FAQs as well.
I am concerned that if I powder I wont be able to get the switch mount over the frame tube again.

If you're referring to the VIN tag it is held by screw rivets plus double face tape. You ca dremel the heads off and push the body into the head tube of the frame , then get some of those rivets to reattach the tag. If you do a search here you'll find even the vendor for those rivets.

Powdercoating will be thicker than paint. Although I don't know which switch you're referring to it's usual to re-tap any threads and clean-up by sanding any surface where the thick coat becomes an issue after powdercoating.

I had my frame sand blasted and powder coated and kept the vin plate on at all times. I put a plate of brass over it for the sand blasting and then just some masking tape when it was powder coated. Came out great. cheers

You may want to consider paint rather than powdercoat. All of the top car restorers guy are shying away from it. Some have had peeling problems, others stay away because powdercoat cannot be easily repaired. The two part paints are what they are using. For a frame, Black Rustoleum Enamel looks great and is really cheap. The prep work is the same. I would powdercoat small parts that can be removed and stripped easily. There is another thread about Vin tag rivets, some member has a bunch he bought.
