No Country for Old Men
« on: February 17, 2008, 12:55:50 PM »
I watched this film on the weekend. As the credits rolled up at the end I felt drained and pretty washed out. Fabulous preformances from Javier Bardem, who they are predicting to be bigger than De Niro and Pacino combined (Yeah, we'll see) and also a great showing from Tommy Lee Jones who I think was perfectly cast for the role and Woody Harrelson also. So if you like a good thriller this is a must see. The action is set in Texas in 1980. I rate the movie as a 9 out of 10.

Were you satisfied with the way the film ended?

I found the Faustian rational for what went on pretty much of a downer. I like the Coen bros for being up front and in your face without trying to add the allegorical connotations, such as once you mess with the devil not only are you screwed, but innocent people associated with you are screwed as well. I kind of like it when they just show people interacting like in Blood Simple, Millers Crossing and Fargo, and the inference is there are good and bad folks and we make our own choices and create our own destinys. I find it more comforting, and prefer to be like Norm Gunderson. My $.002!

I see Bardem got an Oscar, the Cohen brothers one and it took best film, or something like that. Not bad. Yeah, what a crap ending. There should have been a gunfight!
