THE PHOENIX :FROM THE ASHES TO THE ASPHALT
« on: February 19, 2008, 11:01:37 AM »
So i am starting a rebuild thread for all to follow my (hopefully speedy)rebuild.

i've been in the garage for two days and nights and i have a few questions:
one - i want to re-grease the swing arm , since the fire was hottest in that area, i assume the grease is all burned up
i've never removed the swing arm . wondering if it's a big ordeal or should i just grease it

two- how important is it that the battery box is rubber mounted, i have a glass mat battery.and i was thinking i would just solid mount it to the frame so i don't have to track down the rubber pieces

there will be some other mods just so i dont lose motivation, some i know i'm gonna do, others i have not thought of yet

here is the starting point

Sorry to hear of your troubles :o The battery box does more than the hold the battery.  The various electrics that mount to it, including the regulator, rectifier, fuse box etc all benefit to some degree from the rubber isolation.  On the other hand, I would doubt that many of those cafers who have relocated their electrics / battery under the seat etc engineered in an isolation system.  Can't say for sure how reliability is effected with these mods though . . .Remember,  Honda did a nice job building a machine that could reliably perform for many miles in a wide rage of conditions

Hey Spikey,
Build it how you like it.
BTW the throttle cables are on their way.  Couldn't get them out til today.
For the rubber parts, why not buy little rubber feet from Home Depot.  You can cut em up and shape them however you want.  Plus they are cheap.
Can't wait to see what you do with it.

I'd pull the swingarm and clean out the old crusty crap if I were you.  It doesn't take long and you'll know it's all good.

The intake boots and electric panel are on their way.  Can't wait to see the end product.
