You are an inspiration to us all Spikey!  That is a great solution to the filter clearance issue and I plan on coping it myself!

Thanks!

thanx all , it was pretty ballsy indeed , once i made the first cuts (after the reinforcements of coarse) i was lookin at thinking,  "wow...thats alot,... maybe this was a bad idea"
then i added alot more reinforcements,  i forgot to mention that the pipe is capped off with 1/8" plate not sheet metal......thats probly the strongest part of the frame ;D.. i didn't want to take chances
spike... those two pics together of the frame and old version?... i don't see any difference.
what are we talking about?
the horizontal frame line in the bondo work , its a bit smoother then the first time . the line is less harsh (yeah yeah thats it)

remember one thing MOCK UP ,, very little room for error here. it wasn't that difficult to do,
i removed and installed the carbs more then anything else just trying to get it mocked up right so it fit
are you going with the leopard spots again? i hope so.
of coarse, no question

so i couldn't polish the chrome shocks enough to pass Quality Control, it was burned too deep in the chrome, so i was gonna just paint the caps, witch i was not happy about. the shocks were ,for me, a major focal point.   so i changed my mind and replaced them. (the first big coin i've dropped on this rebuild)
i don't regret it ... but it still sucks

very true , i was in the middle of cleaning up the 1/4" layer of soot that was EVERYWHERE (i mean everywhere, in every drawer of the tool box, inside boxes full of parts that were in a cabinet :o) when the basment filled with poo...... so as you can guess the garage got put on hold

i forgot to mention that the old shocks are up for grabs , there not in bad shape by any means the chrome on the cover was the only real part that wouldn't polish up

this is as far as i got before changing my mind

i got my taillight today so i had to get the fender all squared away, it was already stripped and primed , so i just had to put the fabric on it,

this was done with contact cement this time around , before i used gasket tack (little can with a brush in the cap) because it was tacky right away but i had a few minutes to shift the cloth around, with contact cement you set it and that's it i could shift a little but only enough to get the wrinkles out . i used contact cement because its a stronger bond (the other stuff needed more "maintenance" ) the edges were gone over with epoxy, same as last time.

i never get a chance to really show this piece off , it's a light mixture of
sheet metal, plate steel and welded in screws sprinkled with threaded alloy spacers
...mmm hummy

always remember grommets are your friend

I'm headed to the garage now ,i finally got a date to be out by, May 1st so i gotta get the front end back on , once its ready (hopefully tonight) so i can get this thing ready to move. i already broke down the rear wheel and re-polished the hub (and the spokes, AND the f@#king NIPPLES, that sucked, they were all nasty) and got the wheel all put back together, that i have to take to the shop and have it trued and the tire mounted

I'll post more pics later

with the new seat configuration they are a little closer to my a$$
...and i would hate to get a "premature prostate exam" ;D

but i'm not sure,... they're so damn cool lookin 8)
