Well we prayed for no head wind and got a cross wind instead
it was that bad, Chris didn't risk running the full streamlining and rode the bike naked. Although he was on flying gearing (18/39) he only ran over the quarter mile and turned in some good times in the 12.2s with terminal speeds of 114mph in third gear. It goes to show that streamlining over the standing quarter doesn't have that much effect.
When it came time for the RS to run over the kilo, a tad to much of a high gear had me struggling to fire it off the line.
I didn't get a time for my first run but it felt good. The second run resulted in a time of 26.03 seconds, quite a bit away from the British record, that stands at 25.27 seconds.
My next four runs were all done one after the other when I had the track to myself at the end of the meeting.
My third run dipped into the 25s with 25.98 folowed by a 25.88 and a 25.66, that was to be my fastest time and just 0.39 seconds away from equaling the record. My last run found me breaking traction and slipping back to 25.90.
Had I bothered to drop down a tooth on the gearbox sprocket, it might have been another story
We now know that the bike, with a bit more power from nitrous oxide has the potential to break 5 of the 6 British records, the World standing start quarter and kilo marks have already been passed but will we have enough for the 126mph land speed record of Belan Wagner ?
Sam.
