Hi Sean, you were refering to a lower gear when you said "Using a high? gear ratio has really helped". In a lot of cases lowering the ratio can make the top end speed go up as, the majority of bikes are over geared from the factory.
Thanks for the correction Sam. I've never been able to make any sense of the term and am always getting it mixed up. I'm always thinking that the ratio going up in numbers, 2.86 in my case(17/48), would make the move to 3.04(14/43) a step "higher". Would it be better to think of it as the relation of the front sprocket to the rear sprocket i.e changing from 18/48 to 17/48 would be "lowering" the gearing?
When in doubt, ask the pro's

Chris just got to see this thread and was chuffed to bits to find you are his biggest fan.

Sam.
Wait a minute, let me whip out my English to American Dictionary.....let's see..."Chippy".."Chivvy on"....."Chuff" (Eeew, glad Chris didn't chuff when he read it)........ Ah there it is, "chuffed"

And so you should be Chris, good deal

And I promise, no more jabs about bangers and donuts as it seems your regimen has lifted me to first place in the "heavyweight" division of Hopped up Honda's. 265lbs fully geared and that's fabric gear, not leather

Go Chris, GO!
