Not sure if I'll be able to get that far west Steph but nothing is in concrete yet.
If not maybe in the next few years as I would like to visit Bonneville and some of the guys on the west coast.

Nice write up Sam. Glad to hear your bike is doing so well. It's a shame they
try to run drags on such a rough surface. Bring it on over to North Carolina and run
it at I promise to pit for you and help find a place for you to sleep.  ;)

At Maxton they have a mile run at a short speed trap, mine is reaching that sort of speed at the end of the quarter.

If I'm not mistaken they run you both ways and average it out. Like a mini Bonneville run I think.
Should take the wind out of it.

Picked the bike up Saturday afternoon from the Nitrous specialist and headed for York Raceway to test it on the Sunday.
The fitter had told me I had to purge the system before use and he had shown me the procedure.
I got ready to run, had purged the system and was all ready to make history.
The little Honda bogged off the line as is usual, cleared it's throat then rocketed down the strip.
As I hooked 6th gear, I tightened my grip on the bars and hit the button.....nothing :( :( :(  13.7122 seconds.
On my next run, I hit it in 5th and 6th but still nothing >:( >:( >:( 13.8660 seconds.
I spoke to my engine builder during the lunch break and told him that the system didn't seem to be working and that I was going to do a static test to make sure that the arming switch was flipped the right way.
I started the bike and held the revs at 5,000 and pressed the button and........Bingo....11,500rpm :) :) :) :)
For my third run, I was paired against my engine builder and sponsor...there was no way he was going to win cos I had 10cc on him and a nitrous kit that was working allthough I couldn't feel anything exiting.
The last time we were paired, he came off worst and by the way he launched it was obvious he wanted revenge.
I spun up and he grabbed a slight lead. As I regained traction the torquey little motor soon had him overhauled which saw me the winner. I had hit the nitrous from 3rd gear upwards.
On returning to the paddock, he told me the system was working  and that he was catching me at three quarter track when I just pulled away in the higher gears......14.0410 seconds :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Run number 4, I only hit it in 5th and 6th and the time dropped back to 13.9031 seconds ???
On my 5th run I thought, fcuk the gas and recorded my fastest time of the day with a 13.6198 second pass. ;) ;) ;)
The gas was obviously killing the motor, the more I gave it the more the power dropped off. >:( >:( >:(
The guy from the nitrous specialist phoned me as we were making our way home wanting to know how we had got on and were we pleased. I told him what had happened and he said that the only way the system would not work under load was if the spark at the plug was not strong enough to fire the extra fuel that had been injected...basically, the extra fuel is not being burned and is causing the mixture to be very rich.
New stronger ignition system needed :o :o :o :o :o >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Gee, Sam, I thought that all you had to do is hook up a nitrous system, hit the button and then go. ;-) Good luck on getting the ignition sorted out.

Sorry to hear you weren't shooting flames out the arse end, Sam :( Curious what it takes to "juice up" your ignition?  If it were my 750 I'd run 2.2 coils with a relay straight from the battery and gap the heck out of the plugs. Sounds like it might take a bit more work on your bike,no?

Also curious if your timing gets changed when running N2O. I've never run or seen one in action. I've got the "retard" settings on my Dyna 2000 but sure those are just for turbo. Hoping to be enlightened :) :)

Very interesting Sam. I'm curious about the stronger ignition system.....what is available?  I'm sure a different plug would help too.

Hi guys, just got off speaking with Trev, the guy who's company fitted the system.
I spoke with him Sunday night about what happened but it was a bad phone line.
Speaking tonight he said the fact that the system works static, only a weak spark could cause the system to not make power.
I was thinking of a different ignition system, one that could be retarded on hitting the nitrous button.
If I need to load the motor with higher doses of nitrous to achieve the speeds I want to reach, the temperature will go very high and retarding the ignition will help keep the temps down.
I asked would the Dyna 2000 system be OK, he said it would but he has a better system that he developed for nitrous two strokes with Boyer Branson and it works out quite a lot cheaper and is equal in quality.
It might have to wait until after my trip to the States so will become a winter project along with a trip to the dyno.

Well guys, here's the date for the record attempt, It's the 26Th April 09.
The attempt on the British land speed record will be made at Woodbridge in Suffolk during a normal quarter mile club sprint, organised by Torque Events Ltd.
Instead of setting the course at the end of the runway, the Quarter will be set up in the middle to give me a run in from both directions.
The record is being sanctioned by the IOPD (International Organization of Professional Drivers). I have held an IOPD licence for several years.
Just need to get the nitrous up and running as soon as I can.

Thanks Bill. This will only be for the outright speed record (118.51mph)
When we started testing earlier in the year, the bike fell short of the standing start quarter mile record by 0.5 sec and about 0.2 sec on the standing kilometer. We didn't test on the standing mile.
The bikes terminal speed at the end of the standing kilo was 118.3mph, just over two tenths shy of the outright land speed record.
When we tested over the standing quarter with the nitrous fitted, it went slower and my trip to the States to race dusterdudes bike stopped any more development before the end of season.
Once the nitrous is sorted it should pull a much higher gear that should take us way past the 118mph mark.
It will also improve the standing start times and I may make attempts at all the British records in September at the ACU sanctioned records weekend at the same venue.
I'm also trying to fit a trip in to the Maxton mile in NC in June, it's just down to the cost of shipping and time.
