It wasn't on the RS piston Dave, just the 4 stroke Benlys but I'm toying with the idea before rebuilding it.

It was late Sunday night when we got back, (250 mile drive), plus coupled with 12 hour nights working since, I guess I've not had chance Dave, I'll be pulling it down at weekend. Will report Monday night.

I'd have the crown coated for sure Sam especially with the use of nitrous.

I will be doing Mike, but all the damage has been done without the gas.
I have since spoken to a top two stroke guy who said he has seen the same problems with this type of ignition when applied to a two stroke.
I'm going to revert back to the stock ignition for the time being and worry about the nitrous at a later date.

Did he say why he thinks(knows) that this particular ignition causes this to happen on a 2 stroke?
What ignition system are(were) you using?

At least it was the piston that got hurt, and not you sam!!

Yes he did Soos but I can't say a lot at the moment, just that you don't need to worry if you have the same one on a four stroke.

Well I've managed to get another piston, It's not quite the same but with a little squish work in the head it will do the job.
I took it to the ceramic coater this morning and will have it back Friday afternoon.
With a bit of luck it should be all back in one piece next weekend.

I was on forum hiatus during your last go. Too bad the motor didn't fare better. Good luck on getting the piston/ignition/nitrous brainworked.

Thanks BS, I'm going back to the stock ignition for the time being, will look at sorting it after the atempt.

What is the hiatus forum ?

Got the new piston and rebuilt the top end on Saturday with my number 1 tech adviser Benly Ben. ;D ;D ;D ;D
On sunday, I rebuilt the wireing harness and fitted the old ignition system with Chris while Benny went fishing.
It fired up on the first atempt and seemed to be good. I let it reach opperating temprature and that's the new piston and ring run in.
I was well pleased that all was going to plan untill Chris knocked the bike over >:( >:( >:( the clip on moved a little but no damage done. ::)
Set back number 2 reared its ugly head when I came into work tonight and found an email stating that, if numbers don't increase for the next meeting, then the Woodbridge event would be called off as the club is looseing to much money >:( >:( >:( >:( :'( :'( :'( :'(
That's all I need, the next chance to do it is in September with a diferent club. It's a 2 day meeting but I am down to ride in the Brighton speed trials on the Saturday. The only good news is that Brighton is quite close to Woodbridge so we should be able to kill two birds with one stone ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Testing at Elvington in two weeks time, will keep ya posted.

Blast! Cor! Blimey! Let's hope the numbers come up just enough or that they have a change of mind. Ya know, it is land speed record, but it's slow turtle time between events. That's gotta make you impatient.

Here's wishing you best of skill (luck is fickle) at the trials. I take it that the speed trials are unofficial?

I'd signed up for a couple of track days only to have them cancelled at the last minute for the same reason.  Seems the economy is keeping lots of folks at home.  It's just a matter of priorities I guess.  Mortgage...groceries...bah that's no fun.

On the up side you should have the bike sorted and able to clear its throat long enough to see the big numbers.

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed BS, not a lot I can do without the backing of one of the organising clubs. :(

The Brighton Speed Trials is the oldest motoring event that is still running, older than the I.O.M. TT.

If you Google Brighton Speed Trials, you'll find plenty of info, it is just a quarter mile sprint now, it used to be over a kilometer.

Well guys, things are back on track. The bike is back together with a new piston with ceramic coating and the stock ignition.
The bike runs and we test at a drag meeting this Sunday at Elvington near York.
We have just had an atempt date confirmed on the 12th July at Woodbridge in Suffolk so let's hope all goes well on Sunday.
