1972 cl450 scrambler project opinions
« on: February 22, 2008, 03:04:26 PM »
I am about 90% into a '71 cb750 resto and have come across a '72 cl450 bike with title/key and mostly complete but the engine is seized. How are these bikes compared to the 750's to work on? Is it worth trading an SKS for? My instincts say yes, but what are ya'lls opinions?

I don't know what to tell you about the availability of parts, except to check Ebay and the CB450DOHC.com site and with mikedialect of here and the hondatwins.com. I've got some too! But, I've also got some 450s that I want to get going. Now, I have no idea what an SKS is worth but, I'd think you'd get more out of it, if you could sell it and buy the 450. Just my thoughts. The choice is yours, of course. Might not take much to break the motor loose on the bike and, then again, it might. It DOES mean a lot that it is so complete. Some of those pieces aren't as available and those that are, can be costly at times.

what happened to that cb450dohc website? Its down and has been for awhile.  sounded like a good place for info. The SKS im only in for about 200 bucks, so I imagine that the bike is worth that with a title and key.

Whoops :-[! Sorry about. ::)  I' guess I did that out of habit and maybe wishful thinking that the 450 site would come back up. :(

There you are, that one is supposed to still be there. Also, don't forget that hondatwins.com can be pretty resourceful too!

Like I said, I had NO idea about the SKS value and all, sounds like it would be a good trade at that. ;)

I'd do it. Maybe give him another plus a Winchester .22 for the bike next to it.

yeah he has a real clean cb450 for 175 bucks, the green one, but no title and the motor is stuck as well. I may come back for it later though. So I went ahead and picked up the bike today. I got lucky and put some marvel oil in the plug holes, went to home depot came back and got the engine to kick over after about 15 minutes of rocking it back and forth in 3rd gear. Hooray! I was hoping it would do that. now I just some of the 2 most important things in life... time and money.

450's make great little projects, and are a BLAST to ride around.
Good luck with the new project...
