Barn Find
« on: February 23, 2008, 07:21:10 PM »
I need another bike like I need a hole in the head.  While looking through Craig's List this week I found 2 GS 1000 (one 78, one 79) close, one here in Columbus and one in New Philly (1 hr 30 minutes).  I looked at the one here in Columbus, but the guy wanted too much scratch for the bike.

This morning I woke up early to check the one in New Philly and ended up coming home with the Dirty One.  This is my barn find, it was too cheap to pass up.  The bike runs, has good tires and only has 19,000 miles.   Should be good for either a good restore or a cheap chopper/bobber/hardtail/lowrider project after I finish the cafe.

Once I got home we went to the car wash and I sprayed some of the dirt and bird poop off her and she does not look too bad....

Here are a few pics of  The Dirt One or El Sucio:

I wish I would have had the camera with me when I picked up the bike, as it had sheep wool, goat hair, chicken feathers and a bunch of other jun k stuck to it.  Good deal thought......

Sorry to hear there are no finds like this over in Australia Troppo!

I have $300 in her right now, once I get the title I am going to send the gentleman another $100.  Not too bad for a runner, especially with good tires?  What do you guys think?

I know where there is another one 78 GS 1000 here in Columbus for $700, does not run but it would not take much.  It needs a starter, and the seal under the Magneto cover.  It has new tires too.  Here are a couple bad pics, not mine was going to buy when I found mine cheaper.
