Hey all, after selling my 78 750K I inherited a new project. Not sure if this thread will blossom into a full build blog but we will see. Fro now though I have some issues. First of all my brother in law aint the most driven cat out there so when he blew the final drive I wasn't shocked when he just parked it! That was almost 2 years ago. It has sat in his back yard semi covered ever since. Well yesterday I picked it up and while it has potential it also has problems!

First of all the sureface rust is pretty bad most should be saveable with the exception of the fron fender. I will likely just paint the grab bar and the sissy bar etc. I know it will need a new final drive and possinly drive shaft after sitting for so long without lube. It will need a new clutch cable atleast and and thermostat as apparently it had issues with running hot before he popped the drive (hopefully tranny is fully functioning!)

My first issue though is he can't find the ownership and he claims the shop lost his key (remember my earlier comment about him not being driven?? Yeah well he didn't even fight it out with the garge to get him a replacement  ::) )

In the mean time though while I am waiting for the ownership so that I can get a new key cut, is there a way to by-pass the seat lock? Would love to get under there and see if the battery will take a charge and yank the carbs to start the cleaning etc etc.

Thanks in advance!

Dennis

First, I'd check with the local Motor Vehicles Dept. and make sure he really does own it.  If he really does own it, it should be just a small charge to get a copy of the title.

I thought mine was, too.  Turned out the 7V regulator for the guage was passing the full bike/battery voltage, sending the needle to full deflection.

You do know the battery is accessed from the left side cover, right?

the seat lock you are talking about is probably the helmet holder....also +1 on TT's comment on the running hot issue.. check that 7v regulator..

Alright alright!!! I am really not this dumb usually! In fact normally I actually look at something before posting about it but I just picked it up yesterday and didn't take the time to look first before making assumptions (yes I know what the say about what happens when you assume!). God I feel like a dumb ass!

Anyways, I just came in from the garage (I swear it was before I saw these posts!) and discovered the error of my ways. Anyways, I did get the battery out (bone dry!) going to see if it will take a charge with some feash distilled water (may get me by while working on it). Also, I got the seat off and the ignition apart. He did in fact own it. I know that for certain as he got it from his cousin and spent a bunch of money getting it on the road. So much that he could have had a bike in better shape!

I will likely just get a new ignition as it will likely be easier than re-keying. Anyone know of parts that are interchangeable?

Thanks (and my apologies for the old brain fart!)

Dennis
