So what exactly is special about these bikes? They are still in a crate? I mean they are from 1986. OK sure 22 years but geez who knows what has happened in the crates. Engines my be frozen even. Cute little bikes but $29000 cute? Not to me!

Bkes like this are like action figures in their original boxes. You don't ever remove them. Doesn't matter if the engines are locked up or the tires are rock-hard. The point is to leave them in the crate and put them in your shwo area with the rest of your bikes. I don't think an adult can ride a 50 anyway, so this whole Z50 collection thing is just for looks all in all.

30 grand for a couple of mini bikes. I don't get it either. Then again, I'm sure a lot of people wonder why we mess around with bikes 30+ years old that are slower, handle worse, and are a lot less reliable than most "modern" bikes! to each, their own...

I was amazed at the number of those things that guy has in his basement...it looks like he has 20 or 30 of them...and he is talking about collectors who have "hundreds of bikes"....what do they DO with all of them?!?! maybe rent them out to the Shriners for parades...

I don't think those can be serious bids.

Plus, I also don't know if I'd say my old 750 is less reliable than a modern bike. Especially since it has a kicker. I keep mine in top shape and it's always there for me. My Son has a DRZ 400SM and that POS will not start. Something wrong with the electric starter and it hardly has any miles on it. So he's coming down for bikeweek and the old man with all the silly old bikes gets to fix it.

I really don't get the crate auction.

I can't say I exactly get the $1,700 bid but it makes much more sense to me than the current $34,000 bid for the crate of 2.

You could probably gold plate it for less

There is a lot of nice ones.

There is a lot of restored nice ones.

But none of them are 0 miles , in short the best, untouched examples..they may be the only ones in existence..

Not trying to sell them to you, just trying to show why someone may want them and pay that for them..

Depends on who you ask. Are they worth that much to me? No. Are they worth that much to you? Probably not. Are they worth that much to the people bidding that much? I guess so.

Actually, almost all of us have bought the rock; aka the diamond. Diamonds are a dime a dozen, except that DeBeers artificially controls the market. You can find diamonds in Arkansas- and DeBeers bought that land so nobody could mine it. GE made diamonds. Buy ruby, emerald and saphire (that is what my diamond supplier tells me).

Sure, nobody is making me buy that chrome Z50. But is it worth it??

A friend of mine bought a NEW 0 Mile Cub 50 (1965 I think) from a dealer for $2000. That bike is nicer and more complicated to me than a Z50. Okay, no crate, but would somebody display a crate? That is why I thought $35,000 was too much.

Sorry, that I was not appreciative of the post; this auction is an eye opener for sure.
