???Electrical system Question -will a '79cb650 wire harness work to run a '78cb750? I want to use this set up as I have the 650 harness in VGC and I do not have any harness aside from the leads for the charging system and points off the 750 motor. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also have a plentitude of parts that need new homes and would be glad to part with those I do not need - trade them for help?
Thanks

  • Mmmm......tasty bugs
If your bike was "stock" I would think the answer would be no. The bike you have pictured appears to be sufficiently modded to require custom wiring throughout. So as long as the clips on your '79 harness match the clips from the engines charging system you can  try using it to get your electrics(regulator, rectifier, fuse box, etc.) sorted out and splice from there.
The leads from the points on a '78 run back to the rear brake switch and from there they go back to the stock harness and back up to the coils. If there is no provision for this on your '79 harness you can run the points lead up your right frame tube directly to your coils/ground.

If your using all the stock electrics, speedo/tach, forward controls, etc. from a '78 bike and don't feel like doing "too much" splicing and wiring then I have a harness from a '77 750F that might better suit your needs.

Disclaimer: I have absolutely no clue what differences there might be between a '79 650 and a '78 750 wiring harness :)
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame
