Speaking of seats...
« on: August 05, 2005, 02:22:47 PM »
This is the seat that came with my bike. I know it's not right for a '76 K, but it doesn't look bad, and the bike isn't totally original (a great rider), and I don't feel like coughing up more money just to make it original. It hinges opposite from what it should (left side), so I've done a great cobbled up mounting job (conduit clamps and zip ties believe it or not)...something I just read in "Can you ID this bike" makes me think it may be off an F. Any input?

If you like the seat who cares if it is original. I think it looks cool.

To me original just means "the same thing that everyone else has." Now of course there are a few things that would be just insanitiy to chop up like lets say an original '32 Indian Chief...but one can not compare the two...

I don't know what your seat's from, but it looks like it's worth keeping. I've swapped hardware from side to side with good results. Does the rubber bumper running width-wise under the passenger section contact correctly with the sub-frame between the fender mounting bolts? This will show if the seat pan is the right general shape, then might not be too hard at all.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

The seat you have on your bike is for a 77-78  750K.  It looks good ,as long as you are happy ,that's what counts.  Cheers

i was gonna say that seat came off a CB750K, they made them with that hump in the middle for the 78's. That seat is a hard one to find. I know i looked everywhere and finally found one.....but its recovered and i really want one just like that one with the bumble bee kinda look and the strap in the middle. Lucky dog......

It is off a 78K the 77 had a different design. It opened on the same side I think though. But that is a 78K seat.

I got my 1975 bike from the Prev. Owner with a 77 seat on it. The P.O did the right thing and welded proper mounts for it and clearanced them so I could use a stock seat if I wanted to. For anybody planning to ride two up a lot on their 1971-76 cb750K I recommend this conversion. The Girlfriend absolutly loves it over a stock 75 seat and I find that it is a little easier to ride a longer distance on it (my legs don't cramp up when I am on that seat vs the stocker where my left leg cramps after an hour). the 77 seat is about 1/4 inch taller, wider and longer and it really gives you room on an otherwise cramped bike (espically if you are 6'4" like me).

Thanks for the Input...This apparently was a replacement for a replacement..when The guy I bought it from got it, it had a butt ugly King and queen seat on it, and he got this off ebay. I actually have the right hardware for it (including bumpers), but just haven't gotten around to putting them on...right now, I have it mounted with two conduit clamps screwed to the pan with zip ties to attach it, and a strap on the left to hold it down...maybe now would be a good time to mount it properly..I even have the seat lock and correct key! Any tips on changing from one side to the other?
I've actually found that the "seat shape" on the seat thrusts me forward causing my legs to cramp. I finally put nice little highway pegs on, so now i can stretch out and ride forever...
