CB500 frame alterations / lowering kit?
« on: October 27, 2008, 08:02:20 PM »
My 72 500 came with 6" over fork tubes. This ofcourse makes it set dumb. I want a bike that is low, but not necessarly long if I can help it. I'm hoping I can just add 2" or so th the down tubes and slide the fork tubes up into the trees about 4". alternative would be a long "chopper" type by cutting the neck and raking it.

Rear suspention lowering question. is there a source for lowering brackets out there?
If not any advice on lengthening the swingarm would be helpful. Thinking 3"
Thanks in advance.

Scout,

Why not just get some shorter (i.e., stock length) forks?

Yah, I've never done it the simple way  :-\
I'm as over-extended as my forks! ;D
I actually liked the look of the fork tubes comming up above the trees, and custom bars would just be more "cool factor"
Wife thinks I should rake it and let it go long and low. Any suggestionf on the rear end?

Lowering brackets for 750's can be had on eBay pretty easily, not sure about 500's.  Might want to run a search here (try "lowering brackets 500" or "lowering blocks 500"), as there are issues with lowering blocks particularly certain designs of them.  Shorter shocks are a better solution.

Lengthening the swingarm is possible, but again there are issues.  It's all been discussed here at length so use your new friend the search function (try "extend swingarm" or "extended swingarm" or "lengthen swingarm") and see what people have to say.
