Didn't check my torque, POP
« on: August 05, 2005, 04:27:47 PM »
Just put new top end gasket kit on my 74 CB550, rings looked good, valves OK, just a lot of carbon.  Put everything back together, thought I had everything torqued right, went for a ride, smoked, I had oiled the piston and rings when I reassembled.  Bro-inlaw shows up and asks for a ride, no prob Bob.  Started up a hill near home running 50 mph pushing to hit 60 mph.  All of a suden I hear the engine change tune and my left leg starts getting warm.  When I pulled over there hanging out the side of #1 is a patch of head gasket the size of a quarter.

Bought a new torque rench today, now have to wait for a new gasket.

Good news, could have been worse.
