Thanks Bill! I think I'm leaning toward a street tracker/fighter style. I need some dirty bars that my 6' 3" frame can fit on. Especially since this thing is so tiny.

Sweet looking project so far!!

What colour are you planning on going with for the tank/sidecovers....
...just thinking it might look neat to be white after seeing the frame next to the white bike in the last pic.

That's funny you say that. I was all set on silver or dark gray body work but now I was thinking white after seeing it next to my VFR. Im a long way off from getting to the paint so I have some time to think about it.

LoL Paxton would be the same way! lol Once you have ridden a V4 Honda its an addiction....Dunno what it is for others but for me its the sound the engine makes when its cranked wide open..especially a later bike with the gear driven cams....throw a D&D can on it and it sounds like a small block with a blower lol..the Chain cam bikes arent quite so nasty but they got their own distinct sound as well. Just as the SOHCs do...I cant wait till i get further along on my 550. Chances are come spring i will be stripping the chassis completely down further then it is at the moment then getting it powder coated after modificiations are made to the peg location and any other unneeded doodads are removed. Oops..sorry for the hijack..

I love the VFR and the sound it makes even with the stock exhaust. However, my DL1000 with the Two Brothers exhaust sounded even better. Nothing sounds better than a 90 degree twin with a set of pipes.

Well I decided to build more of a street tracker style bike. Can anyone give any hints on getting the top bearing race in for the triple clamp? I'm having a hell of a time.

Well after a sh!t load of work I got the triple and forks installed. I replaced the seals, installed tapered bearings, painted the fork lowers, bottom triple, top triple and cleaned up the top part of the fork tubes the best I could.. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have a roller. I'm going to use the stock rims for now until I decide what in the hell I'm doing as far as wheels and swing arm.

I put the wheels on yesterday. I got the front one cleaned up but haven't done anything with the back yet. I also threw the tank on just to get an idea of what it looks like. Still not sure what color I'm going to paint it. I'll get the center stand installed and get the bike off of the lift. I've got a complete carb rebuild kit coming as well as exhaust gaskets. I'll then be able to get that installed also.

That's looking amazing! I do think White would really set that frame off. I know what ever color you choose will look good (except maybe Hot pink, with yellow dots, and green stripes. But other than that. . .).

Trav,

This is my first post on the board. I found my way here because I'm helping a friend repair his CB550 and turn it into a cafe bike. I've been sifting thru the project on this board looking for some inspiration. I'm really digging projects like yours and others, as these bikes look a whole lot cheaper than the choppers and hot rods I'm used to.

Back to your bike though.....

Have you thought about painting the tank white with either red/orange pearl or microflake in the clear? It would really pop against the frame.

I like the big bars and painted lower forks a lot. When I read what you were planning to do, I didn't think it would turn out. Then I saw the pictures! Good work, man!
