Topic: Bike rental in Las Vegas

Doing my part to stimulate the economy and heading to Vegas in a couple weeks.  I'm thinking of renting a bike to do some exploring around the area.  Has anyone dealt with a particular shop or company there before?  I've done the Google search, but there may be some dealerships that rent but don't advertise it much.

Ideally, I'd like an ST1300, FJR, new Concours - sport tourer type of bike.  I won't be getting too crazy as my wife will be on the back, so I guess one of the Harley tourers would work too. 

The prices online don't seem too outrageous for Las Vegas.  I'll come out ahead staying away from the craps table for a few hours anyway.  I haven't talked to any of these places yet, but is there a lot of extra insurance you can purchase to cover a spill?

Ill be interested in what you find out...prices/places etc. I may do the same at some point in the future. Save me driving across country to get their :-)

I rented a HD Road-King from Las Vegas Harley Davidson www.lvhd.com last weekend.  It was about $200/day.
[EDIT]The price was quoted at $155/day, but after taxes and the premium insurance package ($29/day) it all came out to $196.01/day with no discounts at all.[/EDIT]

Las Vegas Harley Davidson was very convenient and helpful.  They provided maps and itineraries for day trips, etc.  I would definitely use them again if I were going to rent another Harley.

While I disliked the bike very much, I was very happy with the experience.  My passenger was comfortable, too.

They provided only half-helmets.  You should bring gloves and sunglasses or goggles, and don't forget that you might be riding at night.  Don't just throw your sunglasses into the hard luggage, as the excessive vibration will scratch the hell out of the lenses and ruin them.

Also, be aware that in Las Vegas, "right around the corner" means about 5 miles away.

I rented a Harley in Reno in the end of May 2005. The bike was a full dresser and I thought ran pretty decent (my bike are Honda's) and had 800 miles on it. Cost $700 for 4 days and costs HOG group guys $350. I went 1100 miles and the bike came back with 1900 miles.

Next door was a Honda dealership that I understood rented Honda's though the prices I don't remember.

I have advice, particularly for guys from the east. Be careful of the weather!!!!

We took I80 out of Reno with intents on seeing the California coast and Yosemite. It was 80 degF leaving the Harley dealer but 30 degF  a short distance to Donner Pass. Snow, and bad visibility almost killed me at the top while a skid coming into California was frightening. Hypothermia was a distinct possibility that day. Thank God the bags and trunk had dry clothes or I would have had 4 days of absolute misery. My gloves never dried. California was great.

After leaving Yosemite (was nice and warm) we headed to Lake Tahoe. More snow and very cold. Then back to Reno where it was unbearably hot.

In the end , I had a great trip, however.

I went to eagle rider.... They have tons of differnt bikes....the HD's are 135 for 24hrs and the Goldwings are 150 for 24hrs... they have all bike in between. the bikes are very well kept up and they are located just south of the Palms.

Hell ya.  That thing looks fun.  We were going to rent bikes but they needed a $1000 deposit and at that time I had no credit cards.  So needless to say we didnt get to ride.  But it rained on us 4 out of the 5 days we were there.  Very unusual for LV.  But I stayed with my friend that I had dated for a while that is going to unlv and lets just say I had something else to ride while I was there.     Aah Vegas.  What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

After a fun night out that I'm still trying to piece together -- how the hell did I get rug burn there? etc...  I sprang out of bed to get to the bike rental place.  No f'n Ducati in sight.  "Yeah - it was making a funny noise so we took it in to get serviced" he says.  Didn't mention anything when I called to confirm the day before - I wonder if they even have one?  After the bait and switch I thought about walking out but was all geared up to ride something.  What can you do at that point?

Anyway, dried my tears and put 200 miles on a Suzuki up around Lake Mead and through a state park with some big freakin' rocks.  Not the Italian exotic I'd hoped for but a fun ride.  The rental place was OK - the '07 model GSXR appeared to be run hard.  It took a while to adjust to a modern bike again.  I was amazed how much the riding position is like my 400F with clip-ons.  The 100 extra horsepower was nice though.  Never rode the thing hard enough to really wake up the engine anyway.  A wife, kids and that $2500 damage deposit really reign in a lot of the canyon road aggresion I used to have.

I guess I'd do it again if I wanted a sportbike.  It's the only game in town if you want something besides a Harley, BMW or Goldwing.  Guy running it seems decent, but don't expect a Hertz or Avis type rental experience.  This place is just a hole in the wall with a few bikes.

Thanks for the update and photo. Its good to know about these places and good/bad experiences. Sounds like you managed to have fun in any case.
