Sneak Peek - Pics Inside!!!
« on: February 28, 2008, 07:48:07 PM »
It's been a while since I last posted - I've been busy with the bike after taking a few months off to adjust to our recent move (new house). Nonetheless, thought I'd share some pics of my 500 project. My inspiration? Muscle cars, vintage Jap bikes (stock & cafe), old & new skool chops/bobs, and the Schwinn Stingray - this bike will eventually feature all of those elements.

I've done a complete nut & bolt resto on the bike. There's not a part on it that hasn't been replaced or refinished. I dropped some pretty decent coin on a TON of new OEM Honda parts (from honda-parts-direct.com) and a bunch of aftermarket stuff as well. EVERY fastener (and I mean EVERY) has been replaced with stainless (+ a few brass accents) - most all were polished before installation. Essentially it is a brand new bike. Both front & rear wheels are also brand new custom laced units wrapped in new Pirelli MT66 skins.

Questions and comments are more than welcome... enjoy! Just a teaser - more to come when the new custom laced 21" front wheel gets here.

First off your bike looks amazing.  I cannot imagine the headache that it will give you when you go out and dirty it up on first ride.  Also how much clearance do you have between the rear tire and that frame brace?  Hope to see more pics soon!

Beautiful engine.  What type paint did you use to get the bright shine to the painted engine pieces?

Thanks - I used Duplicolor Engine Enamel with Ceramic (color=aluminum) with a clearcoat of the same brand. Of course, there was tons of elbow grease & aluminum polishing that contributed to the finished product.

Thanks for all of the compliments guys - funny thing is, the pics (due to my cruddy ol' 7 megepixel camera) don't really do the bike justice. It looks much better in person. It's coming together really well.

Does it need shocks (or something)? Yes. So I'm sure we'll see something. Does it look cool as hell lowered down like that? Oh hell, yeah!!   ;D ;D ;D

Man, I can't wait to see this one come together.

Im assuming hes either gonna install bolt on struts or some really freaking short shocks to complete the rear...cuz right now it looks like the rear fender suport is resting on top of that sweet tire..

Thanks for all of the great comments guy - it's nice to see that all of the f'in hard work is appreciated somewhere. To answer a few questions:

1. I plan on running either low shocks or some really trick custom struts - either way, it's gonna be low - real low.
2. The tires are Pirelli MT66's (Route) and I painstakingly did all of the lettering myself - with a high quality oil based paint pen. I'm running a 140-16 out back (had to relocate the brake stay) and a 80/90-21 out front.
3. The side covers feature custom REAL metal emblems - totally trick.
4. I'm gonna run a MotoCarrera Cafe Seat/Cowl.
