okay, here are some finished seat pictures. in the end: 3 layers of glass, resin body filler, then polyester glazing putty. haven't upholstered yet, but it is mounted and padded with waterproof foam.

the hinge was made utilizing the stock hinge point on the frame. with the help of my blacksmith friend, we welded a corresponding diameter tube to a flat bar, which became the mounting frame for the seat. i used washers to raise the seat just off of the frame and to level it.

i'll be happy when i get a good paint job on it. i shot too dry in a couple of places, and because of poor lighting i couldn't see the orange peel until i had it into good light. not so much on the seatpan as the tank, but i didn't want to put too much energy into either clearcoat until i had the basecoat sorted out well. it does have a few coats of clear on it, but it doesn't really shine yet.

sits under my ass just fine... ;D

How did you attach the fabric to the bottom of the seat? I too moulded my own seat and haven't figured out how I will attach the suede.

I'm sure he'll post pics as it progresses. I don't want to put anything forward, it's Pauls baby.
Suffice to say it is shaping up to be a really nice seat.

i'll post pictures when it's ready. i've been taking a metal shaping class, offered at a local community college. the instructor is one of these old-school hot-rod body builders. he's 70, and part of a dying breed of sheet-metal craftsman. billy and i were the only 2 people to sign up for the course. anyway, the cowl is almost done and i just have to weld the seat part to it. i've made all of the tools i need to make more and start trying to make tanks, but still have to build the english wheel. anyway, fiberglass is easier...
